  1. I need the '225' piece for a 69 Electra 225 quarter.
  2. I need a nice (minimal or no cracks) 62 Electra steering wheel. Email me at jerryacheson@iquest.net
  3. Measure from center of lug bolt hole to center of lug bolt hole. Measure between holes that are 2 holes apart. Just to be clear; number the holes from 1 to 5. Measure between 1 and 3.
  4. I think condensation in the exhaust at startup is pretty normal. I wouldn't worry about it. The key is to get the exhaust up to operating temperature often to burn any water out of there. Otherwise, you'll have an early retirement for your exhaust system. Good luck.
  5. You can find the Coker price at www.coker.com. I bought a set of redline radials from Coker through Discount Tire in Indianapolis. I'd suggest going to your favorite tire dealer armed with the current Coker price and their discount ad from the Sunday paper and work your best deal. I'd bet it's better than having the tires shipped to you from Coker and then having them mounted and balanced.
  6. The Diamond Back tires are good quality tires with the whitewall vulcanized on. I had a set of Coker redlines and I didn't like them. They always looked chalky. I had Diamond Back make a set of 1" ww radials for my '62 Electra and they look and ride nice. I just bought a set of www radials for my '59 Impala. I can't wait to cruise on those. They look good.
  7. For the best quality and price, go to http://www.widewhitewalltires.com/. I've got two sets and I love em. You can also get them at www.coker.com.
  8. I have a '62 Electra with bucket seats. I'm in the process of having the car upholstered and the springs in the drivers seat are a mess; both base and back. Is there a place to get these springs replaced? Year One has a set of base and back springs for a '62 Impala. Any chance these are the same springs?
  9. I'm replacing the carpet in my '62 Electra convertible. I've pulled the insullation up so I can POR-15 the floor. What are your ideas for replacing this stuff? Does someone sell the replacement pieces?
  10. I need a nice 62 Electra convertible rear speaker grill. Email me at jerryacheson@iquest.net Thanks.
  11. Tough decision. I'm glad it's yours. I think you have to ask yourself 2 questions. First; am I looking at this car because I want to make a profit? If so, keep looking. There probably won't be any profit in this project. Second, do I love this car because it's unique or it belonged to my favorite grandmother or ??? If that's the case and you have the money and don't ever intend to sell the car; go for it. It's a shame about the hail damage. That looks like a pretty nice car. I don't have any personal experience with these paintless dent removal shops that repair hail damage but I understand they're pretty effective. Before you spend the money why not call a few of them and talk to them about what you have. It would be nice if you didn't have to bondo that car. I think the right thing to do is to shrink the metal back into shape. I don't think you'll like the end result of the bondo or 'pound it out' approaches. Like I said, glad it's your decision. Good luck and keep us posted on where you land and how the restoration is going. Just my $.02 Jerry
  12. Thanks Jeff. I saw your '62 at Kokomo this year. That's an awesome car.
  13. Anyone have one of these? I'm looking for color combinations for interior of a 62 Electra convertible with Glacier Blue exterior. I want the interior to be parchment or white. My question is: Should the carpet be black or a darker shade of blue? Should the dash pad and kick panels match the carpet? Mine has had some work done on it and the bottoms of the doors and kick panels are actually covered in carpet. Is that correct? If I convert to A/C, would I remove the vents in the kick panels or were they still there with A/C? Could I have gotten this car with parchment interior new (if I weren't in the 9th grade)?
  14. Thanks for the info Parm. I was hoping to get more discussion on this topic. I've seen 2 '62 Electras on eBay lately for sale with white interior. One appeared to be Glacier Blue with black carpet, dash pad and piping in the seats. I emailed the owner and found out that he had changed the body and interior colors so he couldn't confirm the combination as correct. The second was white with white interior and black carpet and dash pad. I'd guess the black is probably correct with a white on white car. My question is in regards to the carpet and dash pad on my car. My interior is a blue that comes close to matching the exterior paint. The carpet is a darker blue but I'm sure it's been replaced. My thought is to use a medium blue carpet with matching dash pad and no piping on the seats (unless it's the same color as the seats themselves.) What are your thoughts? If I do all of this, should I get a white boot?
  15. Who are the judges? How are they trained? How does BCA ensure that every car in a class gets equal consideration?
  16. I have a 59 Impala with bias tires and it scares me to death. I feel like I need 2 blocks to stop it and it follows 'the groove' as well. I'm orderning my radial WWW tires from Diamond Back Classic Tires at www.widewhitewalltires.com They custom made my 1" WW radials for our 62 Electra and they look and ride very nicely. They're a little cheaper than Coker too. I'm ordering the radials for my 59 today. The Impala takes 2 1/4" ww which is not listed on their website. Email or call them and they'll make exactly what you need. Enjoy!
  17. I'm thinking about changing the interior of my 62 Electra from blue to white. The car is Glacier Blue. Someone re-upholstered the seats with a blue that has a green tint. It also has red piping at the seams. Yuk! The dashpad also needs to be re-done. Door panels are original but need repaired and some of the dye has worn off. The car has a white top and I've bought carpet thats sort of a royal blue (maybe a little darker). I think the white interior will look great. What do you think? If I change the interior, what color of white? What color should the dash pad be? Should it match the carpet (that's how Chevrolet did it)? The dash paint is about the color of the original interior. What should it be with the white interior? Anybody have pictures of a white interior early 60's car that I can use to model this change? Thanks for your ideas. Jerry
  18. This is how I do it? Diameter: Measure across the diameter of the wheel but do not include the lip the holds the tire bead on the rim. In other words, measure from the outer-most flat surface that's parallel to the ground when the wheel is mounted to the other side of the wheel at the widest point. Width: Measure from the inside of the lip that holds the tire bead to the other lip. The lip is the outer-most piece of the rim that's perpendicular to the ground when the wheel is mounted. Backspace: Lay a flat stick across the lip toward the inside of the car when mounted. Measure from the flat surface where the wheel rests on the hub to the stick. Bolt Pattern: Measure from the center of one lug bolt hole to the center of the second bolt hole over in either direction. In other words. Measure from center to center of the bolt holes skipping one in between. Just to be sure we understand, number the lug holes 1, 2, 3, 4, 5. Measure center to center between 1 and 3.
  19. Took the old girl out for a 300 mile road trip today. I ran her at over 80 mph on the highway and along some rural routes. She ran great. New carb performed perfectly; no smoke; and she got over 15 mpg. Thanks everyone for your support in finding the bugs. The cruise was a pleasant one.
  20. I need a nice 62 401 4bbl air cleaner lid. Email me (jerryacheson@iquest.net) what you have available and the price. Thanks.
  21. I need the '225' script for the quarter on a 69 Electra 225. Email (jerryacheson@iquest.net) availability and price. Thanks.
  22. Pete, Tough decision. I receive quality magazines with both types of paper and I enjoy both. You may want to talk to the editor of Auto Restorer. They went from glossy to paper a couple of years ago so they should be able to tell you how that impacted subscription counts. When faced with a decision such as this, I like to use a decision matrix to reduce the emotion from the decision. You should be able to find internet sites that explain how they work. (The pictures sure do look great in a glossy format.) Good luck. Jerry
  23. You guys had a lot of interesting ideas about what was wrong with this car. Thanks for sharing them. I thought I'd pop back in and let you know how the saga ends. I finally gave up and took the car to a pro (builds 1000+ hp engines and does a lot of work on classic cars). His conclusion was that the engine was strong and had no internal issues. It was the carb that was bad. He built an Edelbrock 500 CFM carb with electric choke for the car. He reduced the size of the primaries and opened the secondaries. This is supposed to give me more cruisin' economy and more spunk on accelleration. She's running pretty good right now. Let's go cruisin' Jerry
  24. Bob, I've been reading your magazines for over 10 years. This magazine is first class, just like the others. Keep up the great work. Jerry
