1. I sympathize, really I do...I am surrounded by friends and family that think cars are just 4 wheels and an engine. sigh. I live amoungst Philestines!

OOPS! They misspelled it on the website. Sorry about that!
3. OK, I lost my information...I have the original antenna but the wand is bent. I understand it is impossible to fix properly due to the extremely narrow margins on the wand. Does anyone know where I might find a replacement or should I look into an electric with the step up regulator for the 6 volt system?
4. I have a question : would it be better, not necessarily cheaper, for me to look for a radio grill and other chrome accessories for my 47 Cadillac 6269 or have them replated? There is a shop in Fort Collins CO that is supposed to be good so I was considering my options. I thought I would ask the guys who have the ESP and experience
5. Hello everyone! My son's 72 Eldo has been working marvelously including the Twilight Sentinal, until the last night or two when the delay has stopped working explicably! The Sentinal works turning the lights on at dusk as it was designed to do but upon shutting the car off, the lights simply turn off. What could be the problem? Any ideas on what one can do to repair it or will it need a new switch unit? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
6. Nah..keep your Homelite. The govt may only ask you to convert your classic car engine to propane.
7. That sounds like a fun event, Glenn. I am vacilating between a Caddy and no car at all...it depends on what the insurance for the other guy offers. If they do not surpass Hagerty, then I will take the $3500 and sink that into the '47. That should bring the Cadillac into the pink so I can drive it without embarrassing myself or fogging for mosquitos as I drive through town! Money is getting tighter, as I am sure everyone here can attest to, so I need to be careful. My family just bought a new townhouse in Longmont, about 12 miles north of Erie, here in CO where I will take up permanent residence. I knew the place was a good buy when I spyed a 1947 Chrysler New Yorker in the parking lot. I have to say of the cars I have looked at in the last several days, I honestly do not want anything newer than 72 and even that is stretching things a bit.
8. Craig: I certainly think so. Once the Big Three held total sway they started to eat at each other. Competition did create some good cars but I do miss the independants which offered variety and more competition for the comsumer dollars out there. Now they are paring down the choices even farther. Oldsmobile is going, and who knows the next...Buick? Cadillac? (the rumors have been that Cadillac is on the block), leaving what...Chevy and Pontiac? Chrysler has reduced its models to just a few, as has Buick. And none of them are terribly different, just more SUVs of all sizes. That is what is being demanded, I guess.
9. Yes it does...it was a sad day for Packard, and the entire automotive industry. Just as when Tucker failed...any independant that fails hurts us. But consumers are blind. All they see and want to see is a good looking vehicle that runs and does not break down.
10. Thanks, Brian! I could do without the Batmobile but even it is kind of cool. I do love those swept fins! I doubt I will ever have a chance to own one but I sure do like to look at them. You are a very lucky man to have one!!
11. Tim, I read through your website, or the one you pointed to, on the Panther Project. Many of the designs I saw there, including the Predictor, or is that Preditor?, look a lot like the 1959 Packards that were eventually sold. The car you illustraited as the Possible 56 Panther looks good...a sporty model of the Clipper I guess...did Packard ever get that far with it? And what happened to the Predictor? Incidentally, it is UGLY...like the Lincolns of the day...so ugly that I rather like it!!
12. Hey thanks, Centurion! That is wonderful! Nothing like a score card when looking at pictures and trying to fit the models to some historic reference. Much obliged!

Oh and congratulations on your acquisition!! May we see a picture of it? I love interior shots...if you had the time.

15. Where does the Invicta sit in the overall scheme of models in that line? I love the look of the '59 and would like to know more about them. Was the Roadmaster dropped? Thank you!
16. I just saw a 1958 Packard. It looks like ... well...a Studebaker Scotsman or something. The interior is ok...but nothing like what I would have called a Packard. I knew the Packard sport model..I forget what it is called...looks like the Hawk Tourisimo with a gapping mouth and stubby teeth. Is this what happened after 1956? Could anyone tell me what happened? I thought the company stopped producing at the end of the model year, 1956?
17. A great thread, Steve! I think, all things being equal, that had I the choice I would like a 1947 Oldsmobile 98 cruiser or a 1956 Olds Hoiday coupe in black and white with the black and white trim. I miss my Holiday.
18. I will see what else I can find. Keep the faith!!! Old cars RULE.
19. That is a wonderful Lincoln. I will try and buy a Cadillac, probably a 72 or newer, as a daily driver. I will focus my time and efforts on my 47. It is a shame about your Oldsmobile. I would get another myself but the 98 was just a serandipitous event.
20. Thank you for the help, Tom. Mine only goes up to 1953.
21. You are right, Jan. I would think it is in the padding of the carpets but its so hard to pin down. There are refrigerant sniffers that could be used to pinpoint the source of the odor. I was looking for one to find the leak in my A/C unit but it should be usable to find the mildew. The other idea would be to look for any source of water leakage or standing water. Typically it can be found along the firewall and floor boards where the window seals or seals in the firewall leaks. Once you locate the sources, there are anti-mildew chemicals that you can use. Check with carpet companies or cleanup companies for something that would really work.
22. Here is another general website for the Summit Magnums. http://store.summitracing.com/section.asp?s=22 I started my search through Google using the key words : summit magnum 231 v6
23. Oh no problem! Anything I can do to help, I will. Rocketraider is the moderator for this forum. I will run some searches to see what I can find.
24. Hi Mike! Well you might try Fabreez...try it in a small area first...that seems to help. Lysol is another one that will actually kill mildew. The mildew is probably under the seats, in the vents and other 'hidden' areas. Opening the windows and allowing it to then bake in a hot sun for an hour will generally air it out. Just a coulpe of thoughts...hope it helps!
25. I read through this and its preceeding thread on the value and decline of the Packard with great interest. I see now why my question in an earlier post was not answered with much interest. I have rated this as 3 stars because it gave me a better understanding of the history, engineering and development of the Packard from the 1930s through to its demise in the mid-1950s. Excellent posts gentlemen. It was a long read but well worth it.
