1. The modern paper air filters are superior to the old oil bath. Modern farm and construction machinry now uses paper filtration (often two-stage using one to sift out the big suff and an inner one to take the fine dust out) besides I'd rather clean a paper element than clean an oil bath type.
bill
 2. I'm going to stick my neck way out on he chopping block and call the car a 52 just because the style number begins with a 52 and then a dash...similer to a system used by buick.
chop away
bill
 3. Not an issue, unless you are WAY low on oil, the pivot is summerged in oil and will not suck air
Bill
 4. Just Rebuilt???? as in never started????
did you pre-lube the engine (ie run the oil pressure up with a remote pump, or by spinning the engine pump with a drill, or by pulling the plugs and cranking the engine til pressure builds?
Then double check timing and the quality if the gas (I have had gas go bad in 30 minutes in a contaminated tank).
The slow cranking could be drag due to a tight engine or a poor ground or bad battery cables.
Bill
 5. Ahhh Saab.......
don't they build the SCUD missle launcher????
(yes they do)
 6. Johan:
In anothr post you are asking about a block heater. If you remove a freeze plug you will have a good oppertunity to see how much debris is in the engine block and to clean it out...This will increase coolent capacity and heat transfer...and after 50 years there is usually an embarassing amount of junk in an engine block.
bill
 7. Listen to Ralph...he has forgotten more than most of us know. RE the charging system..even if you go to a 6-12 system do upgrade your charging system to a 40's generator or to a 6v alternator. (Ask someone with a model A ford where to get one, they are out there and rather common).
The biggest problem with the 6-12 battery is the location of the relay. They work great when they work, but as the battery grows old the fumes raise heck with the top mounted relay and you start fighting corrosion and lots of dirty connections. Its almost easier to mount the 6-12 relay remotely and use 2 6 volt batterys. one advantage to this is that you can use two lower quailty battery ( like interstate) rather that one GOOD 6volt battery...like John Deere or forklift battery.
Bill
 8. I vividly recall heading south on I-5 in northern CA about 75 miles south of Oregon where the road was 2 lane, and covered with big rigs. It was dark and I was in a MG. The truck behind me decided to pass me and didn't care that there was oncomming traffic....TRUST ME size counts....I found the shoulder real fast, and was glad there was one.
Next stop...K mart for new shorts
Bill
 9. I am in need of a pair of 48 super front fenders hopefully located in Calif. Mine are just a bit on the tough side (been hit and fixed at least twice it looks like)
Bill
rockingchair@tcsn.net
 10. I am looking for a pair of front fenders for a 48 Buck Super I am working on. hopefully someone in Calif might have such a thing, or someone going to Turlock at the end of Jan could supply me with a pair.
Bill
rockingchair@tcsn.net
 11. I had the pleasure of meeting Glen Smith a few months ago and was able to see a few of his products. He does nice work, and and uses his products on his own cars.
The prices he quotes are usually Australian $ not American although you do have to factor in shipping from "down under"
Bill
 12. Make sure the spark is Fully retarded, throttle about 1/3, and choke it. (On my Ford A my wife handles the choke for me)
Do NOT hook your thumb over the top of the crank unless you like PAIN it it kicks.
I own a Cat 22 tractor that has no electric starter....and its a bit stubbern... I have to SPIN it to start it...and I won't let any one else try to adjust the magneto. A friend offered to advance the timing for more power....I said no thanks I don't have that much health ins
Bill
 13. How about a little sticker that the National club could mail out once a year to be stuck to the permanate card. It could be affixed to one of the monthy magazines and the recipient then could "peel and stick" it to the membership card.
 14. I checked the KK website and found that I am ONLY 2.5 hours away from the closest store....so I don't think I will be able to satisfy my curiosity anytime soon...
I'll leave it to HVS to support the oil industry chasing after a KK (under the guise of buying tires)
Krispy Kreme free Bill
15. being one who lives in the middle of California (think of it as as podunkville west)......whats so special about a Krispy Kreme....and where can I find one t sample?
bill
 16. Ahhh....
another case of "I don't know what it is-but I know what its worth....
Bill
 17. If memory serves me correctly...you will have to bend over... and fasten the wire to the hole on the lower lip of the fuel tank. the wire then runs over the top the the tank on the ledge tht the hood sits on to hold the cowl lacing in place. (The lacing is under the wire). there is a threaded hook in the center (below the hood hinge)to hold and tighten the wire.
 18. A neigbor of mine has a 27 Buick with this type of tailight on it. I assume it to be a dealers method of free advertising, it is rather unique.
bill
 19. My non-internet neighbor needs the gear on the crankshaft that drives the camshaft on his 1920 Buick model K-45.
E-mail me or call Frank at 805-239-4569 in CA
Thanks Bill
 20. I understand Vern Barker (business name ROMAR) also restores vacuum tanks. He is located in titusville PA, however I do not know his phone number or e-mail.
bill
 21. I LOVE vacuum tank fuel pumps....when they work. I own a 30 Dodge DA that had an electric fuel pump on it.....the car ran poorly and stalled at embrassing times. I rebuilt a vacuum tank and installed it...Wow, no stalling, starts every time, and is a joy to drive.
The vacuum tank is easy to fix and overhaul, once you figure out how it works.
Bill
 22. In reply to BILLP, a waterpump WILL suck air and cause the radiator to foam in a car with an unpresssurized cooling system. This seems to be more common with low mounted water pumps like 20's Buicks or Hudsons.
Re the warning about ethylene type anti-freeze, there is a slight problem with it IF you have an unknown leaking gasket. The stuff will "eat" babbit type bearings.
My two pennies worth
Bill
 23. Bobs no longer sells that clip removing tool..they figgured out it does not work that well. I usually take my expensive (old butter knife with a notch cut in it to catch the clip) tool and "rake" it across the handle to "pop" the clip out.
Bill
 24. 116" is standard coupe, 121" is master coupe. Buick made more than one model line.
 25. Okay--I stand semi-corrected. My main point was that just changing the boot is not enough.....check the torque ball for the correct tension and for wear so that the poor boot does not have to do more that its fair share of the job.
(And I still don't have a manual in front of me....or own a Buick for that matter....I just work on em for my friends with dry garage floors) Bill
