1. The best source in the US for parts for this beauty is Bobs Automobilia. They deal w only Buick parts and do stock parts and manuals for it Phone # 805-434-2963 www.bobsautomobilia.com Bill
 2. Congratulations: You just ran the risk of ruining all of your bearings. After sitting for 40 years all the sludge will seperate out of the oil and settle into the bottom of the pan...nice and close to the oil pick-up. When you start the engine without first pulling and cleaning the pan all that junk gets forced through the bearings.. Been there done that spent the $$$
 3. I thought 48 was the first year for Hyd lifters in the dynaflow equipped roadmasters. Or was this a "mid-year" change? I know by 49 all roadmonsters with dynaflow came with Hyd lifters. ???Bill???
 4. RE: the post about an electric fuel pump to replace the mechanical pump...99% of 20's cars used vacumn tank fuel systems....which work very well. Have one on my 30 Dodge and it has Never given me a minutes problem. The last owner of the car had installed an electric pump and removed the vacuumn tank....I couldn't keep the car running...the (^%^&%(^ electric pump could not stand to sit for 4 weeks without use. Get a model A ford....make sure the brakes are up to snuff (usually folks just reline them and don't adjust them correctly) and enjoy....if you have a problem...everyone will have the parts Bill
 5. Well...it's not a Daily Driver... but I ahve a 29 ford roadster pickup that is my "ranch truck" I use it to haul hay-fix fence-haul rocks-hop over to the neighbors etc. Once or twice a year I drive it into town just for the heck of it (13miles one way) Bill
 6. Defeated?? Sounds like theAACA all right, why change what does not work, why fix what is broken.... For very many of us we could just toss darts at the ballot, it would be just as effective. How about a dartboard at the board meetings and those of us that don't know any of the candidates could just have a "proxy" throw 7 darts for us??? Its just as effective as the current method. Sorry just venting frustration Bill
 7. Vintique makes a small diameter pulley that fits the GM alternater. It has the added advantage of fitting the wider "B" belts that the older cars use. Most Model A fords that have alternators on them use this pulley Bill
 8. I agree..buy the real thing..but before you buy..get educated. Be able to recognise the differences in the years, learn to identify original vs reproduction parts and join one of the national Model A Clubs. They can be a wealth of info. And don't be afraid to ask questions. A's are FUN and they have excellent support for parts and repairs. And see if you can find someone to teach you how to drive an A properly.
Bill
 9. You guys are missing somthing here.
That dodge is equipped vith a very early and extremly rare (and in mint condition to boot) anti-theft system
While the car may need minor work, the anti-theft system appears to be still armed and functional
Bill
 10. I heard this afternoon (abiet secondhand) that Greg Field did indeed pass on after being removed from life support.
 11. The shop manual is a BIG help. There is a bolt (or perhaps two, its been many years) in each wheelwell above the rear tire that you can remove to unbolt the trunk screws and then access the relays after manually opening the trunk.
Bill
 12. Pete:
Actually it has gotten a little better here in CA. You only pay a $10. "non-op" fee the year you decide not to register a vehicle, and it is good until you are ready to put the car back on the road again.
Bill
 13. Well... That proves your gas tank does not have a hole it
Bill
 14. Bobs automobilia 805 434 2963 has the visor brackets in stainless steel.
Bill
 15. Thanks:
the shop manual does not mention pistion orientation, and I ALWAYS get confused about thrust side and non-thrust side.
Bill
 16. I rechecked my pistons and they seem to be neutral, with no offset on he pin. I then dig deep into the always-present pile of spare parts and came up with a "spare" original rod and piston. It had an arrow on it with the word "front" stamped in it. This puts the expansion slot to the right hand side of the engine unless Packard calls the firewall the "front".....time for an iced tea.....long island style....Bill
 17. I am reassembling a 28 Packard 6 engine that was disassembled 15-20 years ago by someone else. (they pulled the block off the crankcase and removed and lost the camshaft).
Anyway I am following the Packard service manual and have figured out that the rods were installed backwards, but now I need to know where the slot in the piston faces. Does it go to the right side of the engine (valve side) or to the left side of the engine? Left side and right side are assuming one is sitting in the car, NOT standing in front facing the engine.
Advice or hints would be appreciated
 18. I have heard through the grapevine that Bobs Automobilia has floormats back in stock for the 37 and 38 Olds. (actually he sells Buick parts but it is the same floormat) His phone numbr is 805-434-2963 if anyone is interested.
Bill
 19. The limited experiance I have had with the dual voltage battery is this...expensive high mantaince turkey. The battery I had to deal with had the solinoid above the battery and the off-gassing of the battery was forever corroding the termials and it was a constant battle to keep things working. Also the 12 volts was only available for starting...not for accessories. If it was mine I would either convert to 12 volts or hang a separate alt and 12 battery and have 2 electrical systems under the hood.
Bill
 20. I understand your desire to keep a car original...however....I would rather tour with a modern coil, and put the original on for shows. I don't like breakdowns on tours and the modern coils have a higher voltage output than the originals, which results in a smoother running car.
Bill
 21. The interior trim is held in by "tuffex nails" which I do not think are avialable anymore.
As for the door handle clips, the "$6.00 dollar tool" just does not work well. I use a butter knife, grind a notch near the end and "rake" the knife over the clip to dislodge it.
Bill
 22. I have heard through the local grapevine that a 1948 Invicta Black Prince 4 door sedan will soon be coming up for sale. The owner is not doing a good job of advertising the car so I thought I would mention it here in case anyone needs some English oil leakinig on to their shop floor
If interested e-mail me rockingchair@tcsn.net and I will get you in contact with the person selling the car
Bill
 23. I'm working on a 28 packard 6 engine. It came back from the shop with the crankshaft in place and the flywheel OFF.
Shop manual says...pull the crank to install the flywheel. 30 minutes of carefull "wiggling, twisting, and massaging" and the flywheel is installed Now to finish assembling the engine.
Bill
 24. RE. engine paint. time, grease, and the chemicals in engine degreaseres can alter the color of the paint.

as far a the body colors, the best way to compare colors is by using a color chip out of a paint book..anything else will be off. don't forget to polish the paint on the car (or use a door jamb) before comparing colors
Bill
 25. Yep. that mercedes had champions in it too
Bill
