  1. I added it and used the guidematic spot on the dash. If I had to do it over again, I might put it in the console in place if the ash tray instead of on top of the dash. To change now I would need a guidmatic eye to install on the dash to cover the hole.

Thanks Larry that looks real nice. Did you buy the car with the tach or did you add it later?
  2. Mine was good for about 40 years and 55k miles. Just went with little warning, a little fog on the windshield. Took off hoses and bypassed. I don't remember the hoses being difficult to remove. One of these days I'll break down and take everything apart and change it and all the other as long as you are there might as well do. I have a replacement core, but fear like others that the copper lines are too short and will need to be replaced before installation.

  3. The bosses on a 65/66 intake are different than the 64 so expect some issues with getting the kick down set up to work. The 65/66 kick down switch and bracket are different than the 64 and will give you challenges trying to make work correctly on a 66 manifold. The trans vacuum line from the rear carb is different. You will need a different rear air conditioning bracket if converting from stock steel valve covers to the aluminum ones. A few minor differences in the brake vacuum line and the pcv line also.

    Been there done this.

  4. Since we are talking about judging issues. I confess it has been a while since I have been able to attend a National Meet and some of this is from memory.

There have been many allowed, not factory original or correct, safety improvements that are not point penalized if I recall correctly. Seat Belts, turn signals, brake lights. Other considerations were made when R12 became banned by the EPA and R134 became the only "legal" manufactured refridgerant. Updates to air conditioning systems to allow the use of 134 were not considered modifications for judging purposes. Now to my question, has the judging book ever been updated to allow for retrofitted dual master cylinders? I believe there was a factory retrofit kit available in the mid 60's, manual 5468491 and power assist 5468492. As an owner of multiple first gen Rivs with original single cup masters, having lost brakes twice, two different cars, different causes, installing the dual was a no brainer, factory authenticity be damned. Using Buick parts with comparable quality workmanship, should this still be a mandatory deduction for modification?

  5. Another thought along those lines, there isn't a issue that is a hot button for them. Look at the % of the total membership at any National meet compared to the % of the membership that votes in BCA National elections? All this talk of parking at National Meets means nothing if they do not participate and have a car in a class that is affected by the parking issue currently being discussed. Doesn't this issue fall under the Nation Head Judge's authority?

If they are happy with the current state of things there is no sense of urgency to do anything about changing that. My guess is that is the case. Unless a local chapter is promoting a candidate(s) because of relationships or general reputation about something that is of concern to the leadership of that local chapter, there is even less urgency. How many members are also local members, and that are involved in the local chapter. The participation rate of the membership on this forum is a low %, we don't know how many members read the boards anonymously. If they aren't complaining to the people that can do something about it then they cannot reasonably expect changes.

The turnout is really not that much different to an off year local political election. Unless you have a dog in that race the motivation to get out and vote is low. If you are happy with, indifferent to, or do not believe voting will impact the current state of affairs with the Club, there really isn't much reason to get involved with the election.

  6. Having looked thru many of the posts about replacing floors in 1st gen Rivs I really don't see an agreement about the best vendor for the parts or making the patch panels from scratch. I found an old timer that I am bringing mine to for an estimate on replacing parts of the floors. He has the tools and ability to make them from scratch, but if current availability from either ebay, Cars, Rock Auto or Classic makes more sense that making from scratch, it may be a less expensive way to go. I can't imagine that are that many manufactures of these parts, likely all selling from the same supplier, so its repop vs custom made by the body guy.

Please weigh in on the good the bad and the ugly on this. Located near Chicago so getting parts from South/West is not a cost effective option.

  7. I have an NOS set of the 3 moulded heater hoses for my 64. I have no idea how old they are. I have kept them in climate controlled storage since I bought them. The question is, can the be too old to use without worrying about a hose failure?

Have an original set on the car would be really nice, having a failure with them would not. I am planning on replacing the heater core this spring and would replace the hoses at that time.

Any suggestions on the best way to determine if the hoses are still any good?

  8. How long are the inlet/outlet tubes supposed to be? I have a replacement heater core for my 64 w/air, the inlet/outlet tubes are 2.5" long. If they are too short can longer ones be solder on or do you have to change top "tanks" with tubing?

  9. Jim, I actually converted mine to a dual over 10 years ago because I have had brake failure, and it is no fun when it happens. I've sourced Bendix all around for the cylinders and yes the rears were much less than the fronts.
