fix up help

You might try Earl at Hofftemp@aol.com
I just sole him a 20 ft trailer full of old willies parts that were in my garage.
Also there is a jeep and willies board on the net. Dont know the address but that is how I found Earl.
Bill
  2. Now it works.
I like the big old Chryslers. Not as much as my Buicks, but they're a nice car just the same.
There is nothing like a Land Barge to cruise around town in or to the beach and God help the Honda that tries to run into me.
Bill
  3. The Super (Model 50's)was the 2nd grouping between the Special (Model 40's) and the Roadmasters (Model 70's).
It had a 248 cu Inch Straight 8 engine that produced 110 HP.
I have never seen the splash Pans reproduced but I am sure they are out there.
Join the Buick cluba and look the Magazine they produce. You can find about anything.
I have more info on your particular car but it is at the office.
Maybe someone else has more answers.
Bill
1947 Super 4 door
1950 Super Estate Wagon
  4. AK, Where are you located... I would like to find someon down close to Texas to caravan up to Seattle with.
I am planning to take a 3 week Vacation that year just to do this with my 50 Estate Wagon.
Bill
  5. Your page comes up not found for me.
  6. Howard,
I hope you had fun wherever you were.
Glad to see you back.
Bill
  7. I have never heard of YNZ's. I will check them out too.
While I like Ron's wiring product I would never use it for a show vehicle, but for a Street Rod (my wicked twin builds those)...
Thanks for the leads.
Bill
8. I am at a point where I need to start thinking about Wiring Harness for my old Buick. I got the old one mostly out today and it is trash. Good enough to make a new one from though.
I have found Harnesses Unlimited and Also know about Ron Francis. I want an original harness with the cloth wrap and wondering if anyone has had good luck with someone.
Thanks
Bill
  9. A couple of comments about hauling cars and what to look for.
Never use a hauler who has what you see new cars hauled in. If the car above yours is like most old cars, it will leak something on your car and you wont be happy. I normally use at most a person who hauls 3 at a time. A little more expensive but I think better. Now if its a beater car, dont worry.
Check their insurance and then recheck again. Asj them to fax you a copy of their rider and policy. Make sure your car is covered for everything including acts of God. It amazing what they will try to claim is an act of God.
No good getting a nice car somplace with a broken windshield.
Get references and call them. No exceptions to this rule even for a beater. Do you really want to use someone who doesn't deliver when promised and then tries to charge you more ?
Decide whether you can trust them. Only you will know the answer to this question. I have checked everythin and then turned to someone else just because of a feeling while talking to a dispathcer on the phone. Listen to those voices in your head. They may be right.
Dont shop for price but for service. You get what you pay for.
If you are in a hurry, you will pay more. If you can work with the carriers schedule they will make it worth your while. The last car I brought from Montana to Houston went via Hot Springs and Memphis and by doing that I saved 300 bucks.

Good luck in hauing your car around. In the past 20 years I have bought and had hauled many cars and have run into good ones and bad ones. By following my advice for the past 10 years I have not had a bad experience.
Bill
PS I use Baylor County Auto Transport.
1 888-797-2873
[This message has been edited by Bill Stoneberg (edited 09-08-2000).]
  10. LeRoy,
I cant talk about Labor but I do know that I spent about 2K on all the parts for my 1950 Straight 8 engine. It has not gone to the machine shop yet but I plan on another 1K there.
The only original parts I will have when done is the block and the head. All parts inside will be rebuilt or new.
Hope this helps.
Bill
  11. Mindy,
As opposed to Tom, I think anyone with any amount of mechanical skills can rebuild an engine providing they are willing to read and follow directions. There is no special knowledge needed except the basic reading skills and a great deal of patience.
The shop manuals tell you all you need to know and what you can't understand, you can ask others about.
I will say that Tom is on the money as far as your problems go and I would do a compression check and see what is going on. You also may want to do a leakdown test if the compression looks good.
Bill
[This message has been edited by Bill Stoneberg (edited 08-25-2000).]
  12. Scott,
That doesn't surprise me that someone could fail on a Dynaflow. Have you ever looked at one ? They are worse then a puzzle.
I tried one once and swore them off for good after that.
I will call the guy you talk about if I cant find someone down here. I have a couple of leads.
Hows your 322 doing ? Still using oil ?
Bill
  13. Anyone know who I should trust with my 1950 Dynaflow ? Been sitting for 30 years and if it was like the engine, needs some work.
If they are down south thats even better.
I have seen Cofees' Classic Transmissions in Dallas in Old Car Trader and wondered if anyone has used them.

Bill
14. I spent my time this evening scraping 50 yr old dirt off the front suspension of my Woodie. Now thats a "Survivor".

  16. If you go to http://www.ixla.com you can get a digital camera for $79.
It comes in handy for those disassemby chores.
Bill
  17. John,
You sound like a glutton for punishment. Stay with the Packards, at least you know when your done, you have helped save a work or art.
Good luck with your transmission repair.
Bill
  18. Another Dumb question... Why would someone salt roads ? Was it to melt the snow ?
That has to be the dumbest thing I have ever heard of, around the Gulf coast, we try to keep the salt away from out cars.
Is this why cars from up north look like they have body cancer ?
BTW I got my Eastwood Catalog today and it looks like removing undercoating could be a messy business.
Bill

[This message has been edited by Bill Stoneberg (edited 08-11-2000).]
  19. Bry,
Glad to see you back... I see you have been busy.
Bill
  20. What is undercoating ? I have read threads about it but have never understood exactly what it was or why you may or may not have it. Is it good or bad ?
Bill
21. Rick,
The woody I just bought sight unseen from Montana while I live in Texas. And that wasn't the first one either.
Now granted I spent a lot of time on the phone and looking at pictures but I am still happy. The man represented the car fairly accurately (though he didn't say that 1 piston was frozen solid).
I would and probably will do another car like this when I get tired of one of the ones i have.
Bill
22. Hal,
I tried leaving my browser open all day too and I got a nasty note from the boss of bosses saying I was spending too much time on the web.
Bill
  23. Willie,
What kind of Sealer do you use ? I am about to start putting my engine together and dont want it to leak or have to come apart again.
Bill
  24. I too did not ever hear of the AACA until I started lurking around this forum. Since I have found you all I have joined and have talked to the answering machine of the local chapter a couple of times but have not gotten an answer.
I wish there were more events down in the Southwest (TX, LA, NM) so I could participate. But this is a problem I have with the BCA too so its not unusual.
Anything I can do to help in this effort, would make me and my wife happy. We enjoy the shows and events we have been to in the other parts of the country.
Bill
  25. I went shopping today and ended up in a junkyard that had lots of old cars.
If you want to see some pictures look at http://users.ev1.net/~bstoneberg/junkyard/index.htm
Its a shame some of these are sitting there.
Bill
