    A/C 1955

I installed the Classic trunk unit in a 57 and it worked fine. My wife liked it better than the in dash unit because the cool air drifted to the front rather than blowing out of the dash in force. I too have wondered whether it would be legal in the " driven" class
  2. There was a long discussion at the board meeting about putting together a team of past national meet people. They would be available to help anyone that is interested in hosting a national meet. The pitfalls that have been encountered in the past could be passed on to the new national hosts, and they would really help keep the new kids on the block out of trouble.
  3. I just returned from the national, and the tour after, and must say that even though the car count was down, the ones displayed were top notch! The swap meet also was small, but the vendors had parts I have not seen ever at a swap mweet. I must compliment the host chapter,as they did a GREAT job, and I too got to meet people that are just names. Thank you Texas Joe Taubitz
  4. Bobs Automoblia has repops. E= Mail:bobsautomoblia.com Phone: 805-434-2963- CARS also has them. www.buick-parts.com 908-369-3666
  5. From th 40s through the early 50s , the color was called" Dante Red"
  6. Wildcat || has them on top of the fenders also. It is in the Sloan Museum
  7. The UJ-12Y is a match for the AC-44S and work just fine in Nailhead Buicks.
  8. Don't throw them away! I have used 44s in my Nailhead Buicks and they are getting hard to find. If they are the same you should have aready market.
  9. If you can't find a button, and it still doe not start with the accelerator pedal, you can jump it from under the hood. If the switch is bad, all you need is a jumper from one side to the other on the switch on the carb. Turn the ignition on, put the car in park or neutral , and jump from one side ot the switch to the other
  10. I just had my 69 Sport Wagon converted. The AC shop bought a part that fits where the POA valve was, and has all the things necessary to convert it to a recycling system. It fit in place of the POA ,and the AC is cold. I don't know where they got it ,but it was readily available.
  11. You might ask the man how he measures wheels. I have talked to people that measure the rim from outside to outside. This would make a 5 in wheel a 6. The only 16X6 wheels I can recall were on the 80-90 series.
  12. Buick usually built two "real" pace cars. The Sloan Museum has three or four, but I am not sure which years. I know they have the turbo V6, maybe 1976, and the (I think ) 1982-3They are in the Archive building right now, so I will check next Tuesday when i go down to work.
  13. Cliff, I wish I had listened to the car, as I hate to tell you that it is the exhaust pipe when it may be something else. The simplest solution to your problem is to turn the radio up loud enough to hide the noise. You do not drive the car hard enough to tell whether the pipe has a partial block. Does the noise seem to get louder if you floor the thing?
  14. The 1956 Century X is owned by the man responsible for the restoration of the GM Futurliner. I saw it last week in his barn, and he is collecting the pieces necessary to finish it. I think it will be the next project when the "Futurliner" is finished.
  15. Cliff, It may be that the driver is not wound too tight!! You should have mentioned the problem in GR last weekend. I have run into the problem once or twice where the exhaust pipe which is a double pipe will partially collapse and cause the sound you are hearing.
  16. Thomas, The 55 Century had 9 to 1 compression, so it is a kind of border line engine. It will run on the 89 octane mid grade we have available, and if you retard the timing 2-3 degrees it wil probably run on the 86-87 octane regular. The problem with this is, this will affect performance and mileage enough that you will not see any saving. Back in the 50s we did have some extra high octane fuels available ( Gulf Crest, sunoco 260 ) but they have been gone for many years.
  17. Brian, just before Christmas , I had a chance to peruse the GM collection. You are correct, the Silver Arrow 111 is a part of their colllection. Don't forget also the Centurion which is also at the Sloan Museum.
  18. Dave, if the engine runs OK after it starts, I would rule out the timing chain. Unless it has jumped a tooth, the timing will be close enough that it should start. If it has jumped a tooth, it will have a very definite loss of power, and the exhaust note willl change to make the engine sound as if it is laboring.
  19. I have a 37 and a 39 , and that does not look like either. the 40 has a round face like yours, but the background is cream colored. Yours may just be discolored.

    TH400 woes

It may be simpler to change the front yoke on your drive shaft than changing the trans. If you have experienced that much trouble finding a tranny, you may just be able to find a yoke easier.
  21. Tony, where in TN are you located? Send me a PM
  22. I agree it is a real ball, but RL has continued to raise prices and skimp on track maintenance to the point where I go to watch, and visit ! the Norwalk event is drawing more of the good cars, and unless RL is careful, he will have nothing left but a few black cars. Many of the big vendors don't go anymore because of the way they were treated.
  23. Heat is what causes vapor lock. If you can't free the butterfly up, you can drop the exhaust pipe ,and pry it open so the exhaust can get out.
  24. This Buick was in the Detroit area for years. It had been redone with a front end like a Rolls and was in my opinion quite unattractive. A guy named Warshawsky ( JC Whitney) bought it and put it back to its'original state. If you have a copy of George Dammann's book " 70 years of Buick" the caning shows up quite well. It is on page 177 in the first edition.
  25. The carb switch has two wires. Just jump across them and it will crank! If you want to install a button, undo the wires from the carb switch and run them into the button, and you will be good to go.
