  1. More at leaat have it certified. Then again every "as is" car ive seen lately has really meant "well organized scrap" so that probably doesnt help
  2. No pictures of the engine, or interior make this feel a bit sus, not to mention the price is really high for what is essentially a very niche collector item, but damned if I wouldn't like to have this hauling around my toys. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/822408556368837
  3. Not only are they poorly documented, but ya, they're pretty much a lotto of "is this a rust bucket". And if they're not, the Canadian ones are usually very expensive. Especially Canadian only brands like Monarch and Meteor
  4. Will second this. Literally went through this during the week, the frame was gone, and it was infecting the floor boards and even the lower doors. It's a nice car, but it'd probably need another 20kish to make it solid.
  5. Redoing that interior (if it can even be saved), and the body would be a fair penny. The body at least doesn't look too rusty. Did Merc's come with a v8 during that time?
  6. Wondered if anyone else was combing things up here. Their craiglist ad has better photos then their kijiji one. Bad frame kills this for me, that alone will add a ton fo money to things.
  7. If it's got the original interior and drivetrain, that would be a decent car to restore.
  8. That'd be an awesome car to get, outside of the yellow. Maybe it's because it's in Santa Fe, but I sense if it was here it'd be really bright.
  9. I'm not sure if this is a roadster or the deluxe version, but it's the only two models that i found from that had rumble seats from this year. If I have the model wrong, please post with sources. Has been for sale for months, always seems like this era is a hard sell. Which is too bad. From the photos, it looks quite nice, although I wish it had some shots of the interior and what not. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1601757137258693
  10. So thought I'd update this. Found out the reason why the colours were off and the firewall was repainted was a symptom of a bigger issue. Found that the frame was rotten, possible the floors and some parts of the paint as well when we got it on the hoist at a friends garage. Turned out it had had some work done by a friend of there's twenty years ago, and it was a bit liberal at cutting corners. Told it'd be another 30k at least to repair everything so....that's that. If it's too good to be true, it probably is
  11. My good ness that is exactly the kind of car I'd want to get from that era.
  12. Thik this is the third one that I've seen in the last month. Nice looking car, although I'm never a fan of white interior. That price feels a bit steep, but considering the era is probaly close to being on par.
  13. Can't say I have any sympathy for either of these idiots. Want to race? Get on the track. Don't like that? Too bad. If I remember right up here, they'd lose their license for a year and for the 78 year old dood, probably have a real hard time getting his renewed. Lot to lose because some puddlejumper cut you off.
  14. So I know that the transmission had been slightly modified, if I remember right they had added a shift kit to allow for a longer first gear s it didn't shift to second so fast? Probably explains why the engine might have been out. Definitely a good reason to confirm the VIn on the block though (probably have the shop overlooking it this week do so)
  15. 15k usd for a car with no drivetrain? Are mercs of that era that rare?
  16. Very nice. WIll have to bookmark this as I know I'll forget this down the road. Only weird thing is that it says the lower body colour is platinum, but it's dark blue. Had a look everywhere to see if there was any repainting, but no dice. Did Olds of that era come in two tone at all? Here's a picture for reference. Threw one in of the engine block for fun, although I'm almost certain it's not anything special (no W's here I dont' think )
  17. You can definitely.tell its been in a barn. At the very least a good wash would.help
  18. So the VIN is 344679M*****, which from the sources I've found online, confirms it's a 442 (34467, built in Lansing). And I believe that G you mentioned was there (not a mechanical guy, but there was a set of numbers that were pretty obvious on the gold block.). Not sure how you can tell C or D castings unless you open the engine up? So here's what the data plate looked like. It's.....confusing to say the least, at least to me. If I'm reading it right, it's not a 442, and it's supposed to be silver instead of the blue paint that it was?
  19. Hello all So I'm looking at what on the outside is a decent looking '69 442 convertible, and as someone that isn't a big Olds guy (I'm more familiar with Ford's, Pontiac, Dodge), I'm wondering if anyone could provide some advice on what to look out for, what are red flags, just anything that would be useful as from my research, these models are both popular, and easily fakeable.
