  1. I have a letter from the Chandler Motor Car company sent to My grandfather Emerson Clavel of Wauchula Florida in 1918. He was a distributor of Chandler in that part of Florida. The letter was imploring him to convince local bankers to provide personal loans for automobiles. ANY AUTOS. Chandler Motors said in the letter that the automobile provides a valuable service to Americans and would even bring the American family together and prevent communism, bolshevikism and fascism. Chandler thought that the auto was worthy of loaning money for. Its a great letter.
  2. Definitely... One of the coolest cars ever...
  3. My 1922 Chandler Royal Dispatch with its original curtains installed. Haven't driven with them yet. They are in pretty good shape except the "glass" is yellowed and one pane is cracked. Peter
  4. Great looking truck! I prefer Doge generation one Cummins diesels....the best trucks ever. Especially my 92 LE 4x4. LOL Biodiesel! No reason not to make some with waste veggie oil. Or a heated veggie tank!
  5. I had an engine knock that ended up being a lose rod bearing cap. The piece of belt leather wrapped around the crank on #6 didn't make a sound! But prompted all new babbit bearings. On my set up 1922, but very similar the water pump to magneto drive off the cams makes a little noise but its not alarming. Check all the universals between them. Peter
  6. Happy New Year. I am happy as at the end of 2022 I got my 100 YO Chandler running for the first time since the engine rebuild. Body paint this year, then it will be close to completely finished!
  7. I powder coated my wheels and lock rings and it's working well. Still have marks though after installing.
  8. I have been running it stationary in small intervals. Probably have 30 - 40 minutes so far. I just read in an old 1922 book that I should add and extra gallon of oil, mix a pint of good light weight oil in the gas (Marvels mystery oil?) and squirt some oil in the carb intake every now and then. Any ideas on the above advice or tips? Thanks a bunch, Peter
  9. I am tweaking the timing, I roughed timed when I got it started the other day. Currently I have #1 piston at TDC and the magneto alignment is magneto brush at #1 cylinder at about in the middle of the large brass contact in the magneto for the #1 cylinder. As set the points have just closed. The magneto timing is set at full retard at the steering wheel. It runs pretty good and idles well although I haven't been able to run it much to normal temp because of some other issues. When are the points supposed to open and should the timing be set at the instant the brush just meets the #1 cylinder contact? Chris, I read your account of setting timing and not sure how my current timing set up corresponds to how you set yours. Thanks all, Peter
  10. I love cars...especially pre war America and 60 and 70 European shooting brakes...I love to drive..VW TDI diesels running on veggie oil...quick good handling super high mpg 1990s sedans...but I also ride a bike to work and the grocery store and whenever I can. Fueling and maintaining cars ruins the environment and ding dongs driving 13 mpg trucks as daily drivers with no need.
  11. Put the float in very hot formally boiling water and the gas will come out. Mark hole. I fixed mine with gas proof epoxy.
  12. On my 22 Chandler, my shifter just lifts out of the transmission once the shroud/cover plate is removed.
  13. Yep, lots of little details to wok out. Thanks for your comment.
  14. Thanks Chris. Originally I think it was just Bosch DU6 without coil, according to the 1922 wiring diagram. Consensus is rehab magneto? Its in really good shape, no rust...original finish.
  15. In-line split six...called the Marvelous Motor. The coil was added by my grandfather eons ago. I recently got the car started after some preservation and it seems to run pretty good. The coil has a bracket with a capacitor but it has no wire. A friend helping with car thinks the spark is anemic, could be because of the lack of a capacitor? How would I determine the correct one, if it is needed, and to hook it up? Thank you, Peter

  17. Ok, got the car started and running pretty well. I am pretty sure the magneto is not working hence my grandfathers addition of the coil. The coil has no capacitor hooked, should it have one? There is a capacitor with the coil but there is no wire to it, so I am trying to determine if it was ever hooked up. Chris, on your Light Six, can you you give me the details of the your coil set-up? I am pretty sure our motors are the same. Thanks, Peter
  18. I used a previous thread of yours to set the magneto and spark plug firing order. I also don't have a key so I think the coil was hooked up to a switch and bypassed the original dash switch.
  19. I think my problem is the coil is not properly hooked up. I'm a little confused by the wiring diagram. The one I'm using is attached. Is your coil hooked up to the generator and battery indirectly through the starter and ammeter? But shouldn't the magneto produce spark without the coil?
  20. Hey All, been a long time and I am finally ready to try and start my 22 Royal Dispatch. I had the motor rebabbited and redone and am now ready to get her started once again. I don't seem to be getting a spark and am wondering if I have the coil wired to the magneto correctly. The body is not on the car so I can't hook it to the ammeter, generator etc. easily. Can anyone with a similar setup school me on getting a spark? Peter
