  1. I had the rear seat out and found a metal tag attached to the back portion. This tag was folded around the spring framing with the following numbers stamped.

    310814A

Also on the tag is either

    SOS or 505

Does anyone know what this tag is for?  Possible upholstery codes?

Also, looks like remnants of the original cloth left attached.

  2. I would give it s good wash for the show Wednesday. If you want to get a shine without waxing you can try what i do. My paint is faded and showing primer in areas. I use a can of silicone lube spray on the paint. It gives the paint a shine for a few weeks without the wax residue. Also it repels water like wax since a lot of waxes have silicone in it. It hasn't damaged the paint at all. You can test a small area first to see the results.

  3. @keiser31 based off the allpar site

"Duplate safety glass was standard in the windshields of all Deluxe models and optional on all windows of both models. This was relatively new and included an anti-glare treatment as well as the elimination of edge separation and "any tendency to change color." Safety glass, which does not shatter into jagged fragments when hit, was still new."

    I'll keep digging.

  4. After doing some research, it seems that there was a car dealer called Pelton's Lot at 700 East 7th street in Los Angeles.  Found this on the California Digital Newspaper Collection at https://cdnc.ucr.edu/.  In the Daily News publication for Los Angeles, Pelton's ran ads and at the time it seems they only ran ads for used cars as I couldn't find any new car ads.

Another piece of the puzzle is found.  It would be interesting to see who it sold to, any way to find this out in the California archives somewhere?

  5. I just received my build card today and it was exciting to learn more about the Plymouth's history.  I did have some questions on the information provided and hope someone here know the answers.

First I noticed that it was originally Limousine Blue with black wooden rims.  It currently is green with black fenders and has black wire rims.  I tried to find pictures of cars with the Limousine Blue but was not able to find any, only paint sample cards.  The color on the sample card looks black and not blue at all.  Does anyone have any pictures of cars painted Limousine Blue?

Also, in the remarks area at the bottom has a couple of items I'm not sure of.  Such as "Spare Duplate" and "Met Cov (or Gov)"?  Anyone know what these mean?  The others make sense to me in the list.

It was built in LA and shipped to LA to Pelton? dealership.  I am sure they no longer exist.

If anyone has anymore info that they could provide would be greatly appreciated.

  6. Yes patience is needed for this request.  I submitted my request March 15, 2021 and just received my build card today, March 2, 2022.  In my communications with Danielle, they were not able to return to work until October 2021 and have been playing catch up ever since.  I was excited to receive it and find out some more history on the car.  The service her group is providing is invaluable to auto history.

  7. I bought a clutch release pull back spring since it was missing and installed it on the sleeve and it's not going to work with this configuration. As i figured, the spring pulls and twists the assembly to one side and taking it out of alignment.

So the hunt is on for the correct assembly. If i can't find one then i will have to figure out how to attach the spring to the guide bolt to pull straight back.

Anyone have a spare assembly for this guide pin set up or know where i could find one?

  8. Since I'm replacing the clutch, I will replace my leaking rear main seal as well.  As I have never replaced one of these before and the repair manuals that I have do not explain this area, i'm asking for feedback from others that have performed this repair.

I pulled the lower half of the seal off to see what I had and it is the rope type seal installed.  On the 1934, are there any seals under the rear main cap that need replacing?  I have not taken the cap off and do not plan on it unless needed.

I looked up the replacement seals and for the '34 it appears that either the best gasket 4162 (rope type) or 4164 (rubber type) can be used.  Are there any advantages using one over the other?

  9. Nice find!  My family and I enjoy our '33 PD 4 door and I have learned a lot from this forum.  These cars definitely get peoples attention and are fun to drive.  Unfortunately, the clutch just went out on mine and beginning the tear down on that now.

Once you have time and if you would be willing, I would be interested in seeing more pictures of the original upholstery.  At some point, I will have to redo mine and would like to get as close to original as possible.

    Good luck and enjoy!!

  10. Well i finally bought new tires for the 33. Was going to purchase the Goodyear tires but were out of stock and they didn't know when the next batch was going to be made. Decided to get the coker classics and once received the first thing i checked was the date code. I was pleasantly surprised that they all 4 were made in August 2021. New tubes and tires and the ride is much improved.
