The driver is Fred Roe, legandary Duesenberg expert, owner, and historian of all things automotive. Great guy, I was lucky to call him my friend. The front passenger is Robert Myers, photographer of more cars shows you can imagine from the 60's to the 2000's. The kid in the back, is yours truly.

Spent hours reading his book on Duesenbergs.

  2. Low estimates of $3.5 million and $2.75 million!

makes the reserve around $3 million and $2.5 million.

I realize that the collector market is on fire but these seem outrageous high.     Especially since the Victoria sold for under a million 8 years ago, or so.

I would much prefer the Murphy torpedo at RM than the Rollston JN and can’t believe they have the same estimates.

    does Mecum take dogecoin?

  3. I think all collectors are nuts.  Some like to drive them.  Some just like the satisfaction of owning  and displaying.

I have no problem with either.  These cars are are well looked after.

to me, what is worse is the person who buys a car or a collection of cars and lets them sit outside. Rotting.  Or takes it apart and never finishes the car.  The parts are lost or scrapped when the widow has to deal with disposing of his stuff.

sounds like it will be a museum and open on a semipermanent basis.

Well......I’m a CCCA guy......hardcore. Your insane if you think I will drill holes in my cowl for a badge. I make a bracket out of stainless and place the badge on it. I prefer my car as they came from the factory. I’m not interested in placing anyone’s mark on it.........ever.

Ok. But you are in the minority.  I’d guess over 90 percent of ccca senior cars have their badge on the cowl, drilled with screws.

It is a progressive award system. The badge shows the world that you have achieved this level of competition and having it permanently mounted prevents you from attempting to compete at an entry level again.

It is also a badge of honor, not something anyone would object to.

Also, the car achieved the award and when the award is attached to the car, it goes with the car to the next owner.

  6. Mecum sells the F birds for 200k+ routinely.  They sold the only yellow one for $290k in 2019.  White might hold it back, though.

if you are a three or four comma guy, and want a 57 t-bird, this is what you buy.  Pop the hood and a factory supercharger is on display.

I think it appeals to t-bird guys, Ford guys who otherwise would not own a t-bird, and even some muscle car guys.

There is a black with red leather one around me with black walls and dog dish caps. He drives it to the local grocery store.  I doubt he cares if anyone thinks it is a d bird.

when touring his collection, he gets to pop the hood and tell you about Ford’s response to the duel cabs of the corvette.

My posts in this thread got deleted? For Pete's sake, why? Because I dared to point out that dealers get sick of the people who try to take advantage of them?

Bizarre.  Should be a warning to all sellers( dealer or individuals) as the perils of selling cars to today’s buyers and a warning that representations can come back to bite.

Some people may feel that way. If I look at an ad that is a copy & paste generic reference VS. a decent description of the actual vehicle for sale I will not bother to reply as it's usually a waste of time.

What if the pictures show a high quality car that you have been searching for at a price you would pay, but with a generic description?  You walk on by?  99 others would call.

All the Royal family are car people. They have kept all their cars since the beginning. I have been on some very nice tours with them over the years. And have been lucky enough to see the Royal Garage at Windsor. The stable was also very nice. The caretaker in the garage has been there for 40 years, and I enjoyed spending time with him. Most of the photos I have can't be published as per a gentleman's agreement. I was lucky to sit in many of the cars, including the Queens regular limo. The stable is cleaner than the guest bathroom at your house. First photos the garage keeper.

I can't find the photo of me speaking to the Royal Family about our car. When I was giving them the history, Prince Michael got a phone call, and he placed his glass of champagne on the fender of out Custom Packard Dietrich. It was the fist time I had to ever hold my boss back at a social situation. I "waved him off"  LOL. Afterwards the Prince apologized. It was a fantastic day.........

I wish I could post all the photos I have. The field we were on was where the "Knights of the Round Table" building actually was back in 1066. The garage keeper told me it was the first time in 40 years he had seen anyone on the grass.......including himself!
