  1. Thanks for the comments. I didn't realize it was still so prevalent. I am surprised I didn't notice it in the past since I love to watch the snow and watch cars driving in the snow.

My dad was a USPS employee for the last 20+ years of his life, making the trucks go. I'm surprised he didn't mention it.

How late in the year is it required out west? I've never been further than Joliet Illinois, yet...but that will be changing this year.

  2. I was not able to get a photo but as I headed out to the dentist this afternoon I saw a postal employee putting chains on the mail delivery trucks' tires. I don't recall seeing this before. I know chains were in use in the 60s but I thought that they were out of use.

Is this a widespread practice that I just didn't notice before or something unusual?

They are predicting 8 inches of snow and a mix with ice for today here in the Hudson Valley NY. It's already started actually.

  3. Our family daily driver is dark metallic red and my brother's car is light metallic blue. The last red car we had was a Chrysler Cordoba...blue has been the predominant family car color. I can remember 5 blue, 2 red, 1 white and 1 metallic orange. Have pictures of 1 green but don't have any memories of it. Most of our cars didn't last that long... considering I've only been alive since 1984.

On a truck designed for ranch/farming use that makes sense. Course most King Ranch never go within 50 miles of a cow patty!

Re "Edsel brick": talk-to-text and autocorrect are responsible for much mangling of the English language. I've learned to proofread anything I type on an electronic device.

That's the truth. A relative was using talk to text and when we asked how their kids were it changed "oh they are fine" to "oh they are dead".

Autocorrect isn't much better. I tried to type "that's beautiful" on a nature photo just this past weekend and my phone changed it to "that's Bea Arthur".  It also changed hockey superstar Alex Ovechkin's last name to "oven chin".

  5. I learned very early on it was not worth the effort. I once tipped off a seller of something somewhat rare and expensive NASCAR item that he had spelled the drivers name wrong in the listing and would likely have more money coming his way if he corrected it....he called me a "grammer Nazi" and said he was blocking me from bidding on his stuff. I had no intention to as I already had it...and he didn't have anything else I was interested in ever back when eBay used to show what the seller had sold.

I decided I could spend my time and effort on more useful things and now I just laugh at people who can't even bother to read what they are selling.

  6. 1990 Ford Aerostar. Was the most comfortable seats I've ever felt. Unfortunately it wasn't made very well and rusted badly. We had it from 1997-03 and I miss it. Our current family car is a 2018 Ford Edge and is a close second. In a couple of months we will be taking the longest trip either my brother or I have ever taken it it, and I can't wait.

  7. I think the deciding factor here is if you ordered it from the car factory or dealer it's fine but if you did it yourself it's not.

Personally speaking I find the whole thing kind of silly. By thing I mean "judging a car which you didn't create or put any personal touch on and which anyone could own an exact duplicate of with time and money"

  8. It's funny how people are derogatory towards "assembled cars" because they weren't made in house, yet venerate coachbuilt cars which also weren't made in house.

If where the parts were sourced from is the main concern then both are equally not in house.

Just for the record, it doesn't matter to me in the least.

  9. Does anyone have information on this year's Rhinebeck show? It was not held the last two years and it doesn't appear on the website for the Dutchess County fairgrounds for this year. Hoping that they are planning to have it this year.

  10. The Hemmings museum is closed forever. They closed up when the pandemic began and we called last year to find out when they would reopen. They said at the time "maybe in 2022". Called again today and they said they were not going to open again.

That's disappointing. I never got the chance to get there.

  11. The Weather Channel mentioned the Corvette factory getting hit the next day. Saw a couple pictures of the cars after the tornado piled haphazardly atop one another, but that was on Facebook. The Corvette Museum posted about the damage on their social media pages as well but no pictures...more warning people to stay away because the whole area was damaged and roads had debris on them.

    Sad, sad situation.
