Just catching up on this thread. There are some amazing cars posted, many of which I don't recognize. What's this one?

I think I would feel out of place and "less than" there for sure. The pocket change on some of these guys is likely more than I'll ever see in my whole life combined!

  2. I remembered another. When people refer to a Mercedes as a "Merc". No, a, that's Mercury, and b, no one calls it a Mer-Katies which is implied by that abbreviation.

Most of the time I think they are doing that just to cause drama.

  3. Great to see more women involved in the hobby. I have noticed more cars owned by women, and more women enjoying shows over the last few years.

My mom is essential to my love of automobiles. She introduced me to the hobby, she loves cars almost as much as I do, and we still go to shows and museums together. Her username on most websites is HotRodMama.

    2.  I just chalk terms like rare, barn find, survivor, etc up to sales "puffing."  But a car with roll-up windows, more than one row of seat(s), and even a fixed roof is not a roadster, and a 2-door may have two doors but that doesn't make it a coupe.  Then there is the ultra-rare 1935 Model T Ford.  Or the one that's identified as a marque it's not - jeez, the name usually is plastered all over it in shiny chrome.  If one is selling a car, at least know what it is.

Like the dealer in Hemmings who advertises having literature for 1970s and 80s Edsels.

  5. I watched Wayne Carini film the segment on the original owner 1955 Dodge at the 2018 Hemmings Concours in Lake George NY, but it was brutally hot and humid and I was laying on the ground trying to breathe so I didn't meet him. When they panned across the field on the tv show they stopped short specifically to keep me off the show, LOL.

Picture taken from the ground. I may have been down but I wasn't out.

Actually got some pretty cool angles from there as the cars left...

You can see my foot in this photo.

But I won't go that far down the rabbit hole and take the thread off topic. They are on my website though: Hemmings Concours d'Elegance 2018 album | El Camino Billy | Fotki.com, photo and video sharing made easy.

  6. Wouldn't convert one but would not be upset to give a home to a Detroit Electric, like this 1932 example I photographed at the AACA Saratoga show a few weeks back.

or this 1911 Waverly I saw at the Hemmings Concours in Lake George in 2019.

Let me guess...you got MARRIED, and the Duesenberg was your wedding car!

    Craig

Actually in my dream I was just at a car show at some unspecific field and the car was leaving, the owner said "you want a ride?" and of course I did.

I know you're not supposed to get into a stranger's car but it was a Duesenberg, I made an exception.

Of course it was also a dual cowl phaeton and in my dream the driver sat in the rear portion, the passengers in the front. Like I said, odd.

  8. Anyone else dream about cars they don't have any personal connection to?

Last week I dreamt my family bought a  seafoam green 1956 Mercury sedan and just last night I dreamt that someone gave me a ride in a blue and Silver Duesenberg.

I don't think I've ever seen a 4 door 56 Mercury in person, and while I have seen Duesenbergs (at the ACD museum) I certainly don't know anyone who owns one or would give me a ride in it.

I find this kind of strange. I've loved cars my whole life but these are oddly specific to cars I have no actual connection to.

The word Classic when talking about any vintage car .. A friend of mine goes ballistic when someone refers to a 57 Chevy as a "Classic"

That kind of person annoys me. Who died and made them the arbiter of language?

  10. Purposely misspelling the name of something, usually applied to Chevrolets.

I picked up my El Camino Billy nickname by arguing against abbreviating and contracting the name El Camino when I was 16 years old, and now that's how most people know me.
