Thanks for the quick replies.. Frank, yours sounds like the least invasive. I will try that first. John

Hopefully this is an easy fix.... Recently my 53 pontiac has started seeing some actual road miles since a 6 year frame off oil leak repair started and is now finished.. all systems work,... clutch, brakes, electrical.... My issue is this.. on short trips, no hard braking all is fine... On a longer trip, say 20 miles, in local traffic, when I get home the brake lights are still on. So what I do is unhook battery.... next day, cold system, hook up battery, lights go out and function properly.. l'm thinking brakes need bled again..?.. Brake system is 100% new. Brake switch is a pressure switch, not mechanical. Think I have a bubble inline somewhere... What do you think..... Driving truck gives me too much time to overthink problems some times.!! Thanks, John

Had the 53 pontiac out sunday and tuesday... about 40 miles each trip. These were my first road miles since this rebuild started 7 years ago.. no issues so far... pretty happy about that.. car is not complete, but roadable !!!! Couldn't resist the 65* day here in york pa usa

No clips on mine anywhere... most things on hold here for a few weeks. cold and wet in the barn..

Haven't installed mine yet but I got whatever Steele recommended from local Napa store... Trunk lid not hard to realign.... rear height adjusted with tension on bolts with spring washers. If you didn't remove latch, front should not need anything.

Shovel some of that up our way.. car looks good.!

Agreed..

If you mean steering box... not that hard.. get a helper, hard to be under hood and in car at same time... raise wheels off ground. secure.... need to be able to feel changes !!... as long as you go in order as manual shows.. 3 steps... about 30 minutes you should be seeing a big improvement... no need to disconnect pitman arm if wheels are off the ground..

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

York PA... 12 in. maybe.. forecast was for 6-10.... or 16-24.. depends on station you rely on... Auburnseeker... like you, I was plagued with the snow gremlins. Prepped before the storm, wheelhorse and blower was filled and ready. Pickup and plow facing the road. 4x4 tractor ready to work. Then it happened........ snow..!!.... well, pickup battery went dead with plow hooked up, wouldn't start... got shovel to dig around barn door, broke handle..... wheel horse started, but wouldn't move in snow... icy base.. had to put chains on...my bad... then belt kept coming off.. worked long enough to open driveway to garage where the 53 pontiac is sleeping.... I'll fix the snow stuff later.... gotta wax the car..

Good choice of snow equipment.. same in PA... Hope to not use it.....

I think your layout is correct.... I had purchased a new stainless exhaust for my 53 pontiac and had to have 2 bends increased slightly by a local muffler shop to make them fit proper. Another member purchased from same supplier, same issue... You might need to have same done to eliminate "off" tolerance issues.

Glad to help... Just happened to be at that point in reassembly..... Lots of help here on the forum, just ask.. John

Hi Bob... This is a 3 speed... Automatic should be similar... Smaller of the two plates gets mounted first to firewall/floor... There is a felt seal that goes around each pedal with a small retainer ring around each felt.... Also a felt seal on steering column.. These get sandwiched between that plate and the larger of the two plates.... there is only one screw that holds both plates together.... Each plate is bolted to the floor with 1/4-20 bolts. Hope this makes sense....

Stuff I had in the barn... Seriously... I was gonna take a picture of things I used.. but worked late tonight... But, a few things are..... PVC pipe.. scrap pieces laying around... 4" 2" 1"..... Used these to recurve some side moldings... Lay pipe on table, roll trim over top with light pressure, twisting as needed.. works on edges also to take out twists... Hardwood dowel.... Phone book... Small cobbler hammer... Paint can opener from Lowes... Put this in vise to reshape lip of trim pieces.... Get creative in your tools... Whatever works... Hardwood dowel on phonebook for bigger dents.. use hammer with light taps... Also hardwood piece can be used to rub out some small dents.. there is no need for special tools at first.... You probably already have most things already.... I will say.. as you proceed, you will find new ways to fix your unique pieces... Next will be filing, sanding ,polishing..... I actually gets addicting as you discover how nice you can repair your own parts.... Take some time on a spare piece if you have any.. have a beer.. watch the results of your labor.... You can do it...

Try a piece yourself... You may be surprized how talented you are.!!! I did all my trim on 53 pontiac 4 door... Very rewarding also when you can say " I did that "

Did not make it to Gettysburg show. But.. got somewhat closer to being road ready... Pulled plugs again.. #8 not firing consistantly.... Did compression check... 100+ on all cylinders after 4 strokes.. changed distributor cap with a spare..... Seems to be much better... Old cap but better than the first one.... I think I have the main electrical gremlins removed finally.. Going to pull the harness again and rewrap it proper.... Door handles are back on.. all external chrome and trim back on.
