  1. The Board of the Long Island Chapter has decided to CANCEL the show for 2020!

We waited as long as possible to make the decision, but it has become evident that this is not the time to have a show.

The decision was made with the Health and Safety of our members and participants in mind.

As with many shows on Long Island our club donates the profit from our show to three charities, i would like to ask anyone who was considering attending our show,

if financially capable to donate to any of these charities or the charity of your choice, unfortunately many charities are experiencing a strain during this time.

This car was designed around the same time as the Cadillac Eldorado  Brougham which used narrow stripe whitewalls as well. Maybe a joint effort.

To reinforce the idea of special white walls and what the Tire company's might do check out this picture of the 75 pace car with FREE SPIRIT in  raised Blue letters'on the 2 Real Pace Cars at Indy

not trying to hijack the thread

  3. 1938 Buick Special 2 door sedan model 48. this car for the most part is complete but is definitely a project car. the engine has been rebuilt, transmission work has been done, fuel tank work and new exhaust and brake work.

i took the pictures below, the day i was there about a month ago the car started and moved in and out of the garage, i did a quick inspection on the car and realized it was beyond what i was interested in. but for someone looking for a project or a drive train parts car this might be the car. i did not drive the car. as the pictures show there is alot of rust/rot damage to the trunk area. please look up the production numbers this is not a high production model. i have more pics i could email to you if you are interested, email me at mrjbuick@optonline.net

the contact info for the car is Russell 631-921-1204. the $4,000 price is about right for the price guides, dont insult the man he is not going to give the car away. this car was used by his brother before he passed away for parades, i believe the original color was dark gray the red is from a spray can.

No Question . I would not argue that for a second. The chances of a 2020 BCA National Meet are no longer the issue. The issue is that one single announcement should be made. There are dates to be worked out, contracts to be renegotiated or canceled. The intent now. is really to decide the softest landing financially for the BCA , see how good a contract we can get going forward, etc. The option of bumping following meets has been throughly explored,  and that is not a workable solution The reasons are far deeper than just hotel contracts. There is a staggering of amount of work that goes in to a National Meet, and a whole lot of work to cancel. As I had stated a couple of times , we really do have talented people working on an acceptable solution and in the end, I think the membership will be pleased at the outcome.

Jack i am sure that everyone on the Board and in Ohio, have nothing but the best interests of the membership in mind. They are dealing with a totally unforeseen situation and i am sure working very hard to solve the problems that are in front of them now..

Lets bring it back to Ohio in 23 or 24 so that they can finally enjoy their hard work. Lets just hope and pray that we can put all this behind us as soon as is safely possible.

Kudos to the Ohio team for doing what they have done so far. Cant wait to get out there and do what we were going to do, another year.

I don't believe a specific paint 'code' has ever been found for the 1991 stock wheels. There was an old GM TSB I posted about here probably 10 years ago that outlined wheel repair, prep and painting Reatta wheels and my recollection is the suggested paint color was 'sparkle silver' but no manufacturer code was given. Three differenet paint suppliers were mentioned; Spies-Hecker, PPG and can't rememebr the third off hand. The needed aluminum prep products and primers were mentioned in the TSB, and that's about as specific as it got.

Honestly, you are best off getting all four wheels and center caps redone together in a good quality metallic silver basecoat/clearcoat by either a wheel refinisher or body shop who is up to the job. The machined beauty ring is a problem also, as the black '"rivets" need to be removed for proper refinishing. There was/is a source on ebay selling comparable rivets but I'll need to dig that up to link it here. I think a bag of 100 had to be purchased, but not terribly expensive as I recall.

    thanks for the helpful info

  6. The Board of the Long Island Chapter is keeping a close watch on all events that surround us and are sometimes changing daily.

Our Chapters primary concern is for the health and safety of our members and friends who would participate in our show.

We will be making a decision when it becomes evident that we could not put it on safely.

We have some time before we have to do that, although realistically with recent announcements extending guidelines to April 30, it is looking less hopeful.

Again we can have a Great Buick show anytime, as long as we can do it with all of our Healthy friends bringing their Beautiful Buick's.

we will post on this forum when the decision is made

Please everyone follow the guidelines set forth by your Health Department, State, and CDC, this is serious stuff.

Be Healthy, Be Safe, so we can all meet down the road.

  7. Being a 57 Special 4dr sdn owner a few observations

in a 57 i don't get the fender skirts as has been mentioned above the lines and exposed wheels look great on a 57

continental kit is personal taste had a friend put one on a 57 Roadmaster 75 years ago you could have a cup of coffee by the time it drove by

the owner was in love with the 50's theme dual antennas so now there are three on the car hmmmm

dual hooded accessory mirrors very cool i have one of those on my car and love it mine is mounted higher on the fender but hey it was an accessory

i guess he never did the cloth on the doors that could finish it off

it has the early temp gauge in the dash

those colors just work so well on 57s really good looking car

just curious how the car is started being an alternator and looks like a non pedal start carb.

and everyone who doesnt know calls the dynaflow a 2 speed because of "D" and "L"

    my opinion

  8. It is a shame, and that was such a great show with beautiful countryside.

I think that part of the problem is that GM is demanding facility improvements and like.

The Bennett Buick article in the Bugle stated they want them to buy expensive equipment for the electric vehicles.

upgrades, equipment, less models, can you blame them for getting out.

another way that GM is thinning their dealers

Loved going to that show Jim and his crew did a great job, many thanks to the Cernak family, i hope Jim finds a new location soon!

  10. Smartin  the ebay item you show is very close or correct for the application the problem i had was that

with the metal connector/lug on the cable i was not able to slip on the covering that was correct for the diam

wire because the connector was bigger. i used a larger size and tapes it at the ends but this was for my 60 which is a driver

i would not want to do that on a resto or original

  13. RivNut you are stating that the 64 was not a switch pitch

years ago i got a engine and trans from a 64 Electra wreck

and i am pretty sure that the dual quad linkage had the switch for the electric kick down

just like the switch pitch cars so are you absolutely sure that the 64 did not have switch pitch

my out is it was many many years ago lol

  14. NTX5467 your comments above well said and agree with such

But i think because it got caught up in this somewhat heated thread

the "my year is better than your year" was started to lighten it up with some humor

i don't think anyone was looking to better anyone else just a bunch of guys sitting around a campfire

making each other laugh, i think any one of us that commented like that would be happy with any year Buick

again thanks for the solid comments
