  1. Because the class had ended for the day I was putting everything back together for easy transport and I broke one of the brushes. I ordered new ones from the Myers and they arrived today. Any tips on installing them? Do I need to solder them in or screw them. Also what is a good way to clean the inside of the housing where the magnets and wires are. So far a used only a rag and I have has some success. Do I need to demagnetize the magnets. Is there anything else that I can do while I have the starter generator apart?
  2. My longterm plan is to earn a degree in Buisness and Automotive Restoration. I would like to have a restoration shop and museum containg all engine types prewar. Steam, aircraft, automobile etc. I would like to work at home. Own a nice original 1700s colonial house with a good chunck of property. Basically I would like to live in the houses that we see in the DB meets and own the museums that we go to.
  3. My car is mostly safety only the pasanger rear is plate glass. To my knowledge only the f150s or smaller had airbags before 97.
  4. I recently went to a local fair and got bitten by the old engine bug. Now I want to buy hit and miss engines, self governed engines, hot bulb engines and tractors with metal wheels and armstrong starters. Also traction engines and stationary steam engines. Heck lets include locomotives and ww1 airplanes. Maybe I can open up a restoration shop/ museum. Update I had a long talk with my parents and we have come to some terms. Whatever vehicle I purchase it must have airbags and it must not consume me. I only do two things when I am not at my full time job or being a full time student. Antique engine related stuff and antiques. Sometimes models but since I moved I do not have a space to work on anything.
  5. I already wrote this in another trend I am just moving it here. My parents are fixated on the year or the vehicle. The have FORBIDDEN me to buy this truck (or any) with MY money. If I buy this truck I better not come home. All they care is the year and or warranty. They said that “we are not truck people” this is not a hobby for someone who is 19. They said this hobby is worse than drugs.

  7. I think the Bakersfield one may be a good one. I spoke with my automotive instructor and he thinks it will be good. He is a cummings guy btw. My only issue is age. I like the body style but my parents don't like me daily driving a truck older than me. If I go newer I run into the 6.0 and ugly body.
  8. Believe it or not my shop had a growler that I can use I tested the Armature and found no shorts. However the inside of the starter was extremely dirty so I cleaned it with several rags and no solvents. I then used some emery cloth to clean the commutator. Upon assembling everything one of the brush is broke so I decided to order a new set of brushes and I will replace them all. Photos are before I sanded the commutator and broke a brush .
  9. *Update as of 31/8 the owner has not responeded to my emails or voicemails.
  10. I am not in a hurry* to buy a truck. I would like one by the end of the year. So I can get used to how it drives before I learn how to safely tow. I am looking at for a ford truck 1997 or older single cab manual trans 4x4. I like a 5 speed but not a 4 speed for towing. I like the way fords look and there are many fords in my area about 20 fords to 1 dodge. * I have a car that I am borrowing but it needs a timing belt and it is an interference engine.
  11. I contacted the guy with the 89. He said he is a diesel mechanic. He will send me more pictures in a day or so. He is also 3 hours away while the one in Bakersfield is over 7 one way.
  12. I expanded my search results and I found two more trucks that are nowhere near where I am but maybe they might be good. https://bakersfield.craigslist.org/cto/d/powerstroke/6670768477.html https://chico.craigslist.org/cto/d/1989-ford-f250-diesel-turbo/6666153094.html Gas https://sacramento.craigslist.org/cto/d/1993-ford-f150-4x4-classic/6674316974.html

  14. I have not seen many if any other brand of truck in the area. Except for the tiny imports that can tow anything. But I will keep looking.
  15. That’s why I have not changed my drivers license, however my parents have so I might see if they will register the truck under their name. I know I guy in New York who for a 100 bucks will give me a safety inspection sticker
  16. To add insult to injury I have not changed my Drivers license and I just renewed the registration for my Dodge in the state of New York
  17. I prefer a stick. I like the nineth generation f series trucks body style and dual fuel tank. I am looking for a single cab. I will rarely have a passenger and it will be easier to maneuver in tight spaces with a smaller truck.
  18. I am in the town of San Rafael which is near San Francisco
  19. Unfortunately the craigslist ad ended however The owner reached out to me and said he will be in contact when he comes back from vacation. The trucking question is a 1994 F250 5 speed 7.3 turbo diesel 4X4 with 220k. It is a single cab and he says that it will need some steering and brake work in the future. He’s asking 4500.
  20. Last time I used the starter. I recalled that it started but did not generate. Also I highly doubt that the shop at my school has a growler. Should I invest in one for myself?
  21. I will most likely be getting a 7.3 IDI diesel Or a 6.9 naturally aspirated diesel. If the F150 above falls through.
  22. I am in the market for a new vehicle and I have narrowed my search down to two. 1993 F150 straight six and 1994 F250 diesel. Most of the time I will not be telling or hauling anything however I do plan on making yearly trips across the country with a 20 foot enclosed trailer and a car inside. Both will cost me the same upfront. The diesel is asking 4.5k and the gas 6.5k. Diesel is going to need some brake work I am all the fluids changed. F150 has a tow package in a 3.55 rear end. Both are a single cab. 5 speed with an overdrive.
  23. Thanks for the info. I have narrowed my search to two trucks that are for sale near me. (Within 100 miles). A 1994 f250 diesel and a 1993 f150 straight 6. 95% of the time I will not be towing anything whatever I will be making yearly trips to DB national meets.
