  1. An interesting note to me from a friend in OZ

    Hi Hans

    It is a 11BL Citroen from the 1949-52? period . A French made version.   Commonly known as the Light 15 . There was also a 6 cylinder model called the Big 6 .     (  not the English version which had a wooden dash panel and assembled in Slough England from CKD parts with some English content such as Lucas electrics , Rubery Owen wheels etc. and leather trim instead of cloth.  )

    Regards

    Brian

  2. Just to be helpful. Give number from tag on Distributer.

    Essex distributor caps for cars prior to 1928 had physically larger diameter caps.

    In 1929 an Auto light distributer had a smaller diameter cap, right thru 1947.

  3. If you feel you have an issue with cooling the following may be helpful.

    My experience with Essex engines is the block cooling system always needs cleaning......!

    With the thermo syphon it seems the sediment is thicker ( greater ) in the front of engine than near rear.

    I prefer to remove cyl head and clear all water passages to head from block as well a head too.  Easier to use probes to loosen and chisel remnants inside water  jacket.

    Your engine has small Welsh plugs on drivers' side to gain access.  But remove mid engine water inlet bracket to aid  removal of deposits.

    Enjoy your Essex

  4. Just today, checked on renting a hot water  blaster.

    Gas engine runs pump and hot water boiler runs on diesel.

    $93. for four hours and $130 for 24 hrs.

    Tractor Supply for some cleaning fluid to put in the water.

    Looks heavy duty, they use it for cleaning their rental items: tractors, trenchers, heavy equipment.

    Black Swamp Equipment ( NW Ohio and S Michigan )

    I will use them, instead of buying,

  5. 27, 28, 29 Frames almost the same. Each years same  frame for 2 door - 4 door -coupes- and special bodies.

    Body bolt holes to frame same.

    There is a difference in "D" Chanel on the lower side frame supports that reinforce center of longer frame side rails.

    Also running board brackets and front spring to frame attachments.

    '28 and '29 frames would have brackets for the support of Front brake hangers, which would be helpful. As the '27 had no front brakes.

    29 has two shoe Bendix brakes as opposed to the '28 with three shoe Bendix brakes.

    ///////////////////

    The '27, '28 and '29's, had different step heights, thus running board brackets were different each year.  That is one reason fenders for each year don't fit as shape and depth of running boards are quite different.

    '29 running board brackets could be moved upward.

    /////////

    More '29 Essex cars made, aprox 229,000.

  6. James Sutcliffe and I met at Hershey and have camped there together for 50 years.

    He always wanted to find another '39 PLY to replace the one he had when entered the Army in WW2.

    At Hershey 3 years ago, he found this beautiful car.

    He Drives and Maintains his several cars, in particular his 1939 Plymouth 4 door convertible.

  8. AC E9 spark plugs apparently went thru different stages of build.

    As I have learned, ( just a little ) older plugs were designed so that a nonreader could compare pictures/shapes to identify replacements.

    Early AC  E's had a brass cap with removal straight porcelain, locked in place with nut,  and a single Fluit radiating from base.

    Later they removed brass cap and added ribs to porcelain, still with a form of Fluit on base.

    Later, like your picture, the cylindrical base had differing lengths of base material. Yours being in the middle of heat range.  Also referred to as SAE Regular in my material.

    /////////////////////

    E types,  7/8 thread with 15/16 SAE.  NOT 18 metric

    Heat ranges offered   4 1/2, 6, 8, 9, 12, 14

    ///////////////////////////////////

    My  info is limited but here are vehicles using AC E and AC E9 plugs.

    From the charts the letter E  seems to be changed to the E 4 1/2 to E 14 heat ranges.

    These are 7/8 thread, NOT 18 mm thread.

    Apperson 8 cyl  E

    Durant  75, 66, 65, 60, 55, 40.  E

    Falcon Knight '27  '29 inclusive   E

    Gardner '28 '29,  except 1930-31.   E

    Lexington all models  E

    Marmon model 78  specified E9.   Also, E, all thru 1926 included with old head.

    Oldsmobile 1927   E

    Reo 1927sterns Knight 1930    E

    Studebaker  some models     E

    Willis Knight, all but Series 86.  E

    //////////////////

    Other uses may be found, a cross reference for E9 showed   Champion AB-44, .Champ 6, and C-4.

    I hope this is a little helpful.
