  1. white metal top with 8 bolts on top ?

    or

painted metal top with 4 bolts on top?

    ////////////////

8 bolt top may have long springs connecting float and mounting.

4 bolt top may have a float with a candy cane arm on top that connects to loops under top.  The loops control operation - clean them with cleaning spray

another style 4 bolt top may have a float with a slot, in which right angle wires under cover slide in to control the operation,  clean them too.

4 bolt tops, have a inner tank tube with a flapper valve at the bottom, make sure moveable flapper can seat properly.

    Watch floats for leaks.

    Hope this may help

  2. 1929 Essex on had the two part oil pan assemblies. Separate troughs and oil pan.

1928 and earlier Essex's had oil troughs soldered to the oil pan.

Starting with the 1930 Hudson engines, they were two cylinders longer than the Essex.

Apparently, all moving parts were same as Essex, by model year, thru 1932.  ( minus crankshaft, and other unique 8 cyl parts )

The last year for Essex - 1932.

  3. 1963, and every year since. Met a Hershey friend from NY during covid, to make it continuous.

so many memories, and reading others comments brings it back to life again !!!

    Thanks for your comments!!

  4. I know this is old BUT I find I now find I have a 4 trumpet Sparton with number 185.

I  wonder what tune it could play

Motor runs, there is air pressure, v4 valves are actuated.  but  so far no real tones.

Tried revolving "heads", nothing.  Looked inside  Head  and can see copper colored disc

    Cant tell if good.

Do not see a way to open the head holding the diaphragm.

    Any comments?

from previous posts, I wonder where 35 mm film diaphragm goes and how to put it in place.

    thanks for any info.

  5. your oil pan seems to have a much later type of oil pickup assembly installed.

Your oil pump has one inlet (pick up tube )  and two outlet tubes.

The inlet tube to oil pump passes thru motor block curves thru upper oil pan and heads down to near bottom of pam. Bottom end of tube has 45 degree cuts on two sides to keep it from touching bottom and closing the opening.

You have the remains of the pick up tube pinched off to keep oil level in upper pan retained.

I think your engine has quite an interesting modification.

  6. I do not think they are for Hudson or Essex.

Not 27, 28 or 29 Hudson or Essex.

The closest resemblance is 30 and 31 Essex

These do have a similar screw tab to retain the lens ring.

1932 Essex had a distinctive VEE shape glass lens, and Hudson I believe had A sort of Stretched oval lens.

However, the side view shows a squashed bulbus shape. 30 and 31 Essex have a smooth transition from rim to back point.

Head light glass does not seem to match what I am familiar with either.

Perhaps you can remove a lens and get the model number, there are people with info on lens usage, that may help steer you to the proper car.

    I hope this helps.
