  1. It is truly amazing that looking for a simple what's on my car question can come up with a piece of the 1957 Buick Holy Grail! This is a great post. I hope the information keeps flowing on this one. What a boon to 57 owners..Thanks Sean / TG and all the other posters of information.
  2. Chris, it does seem high, though I paid about $6K to have mine totally rebuilt. Not cheap by any means..I think you are on the right path looking for a good working one..
  3. Sean, that is fantastic! How the heck did you find that? I have been looking all over for that type of information. Thank you so much. What other information do they have on that site. I looked at the basic info (production numbers, trim, etc)..but am interested in the deep dive stuff like this..Keep us posted..thanks again!
  4. Has anyone out there changed from manual steering to power steering on there vehicle? I am looking for any and all information regarding that. I think I have all the components (pump, 2 groove pulley, PS gear, hoses, associated bracketry, pitman arm), but noticed in the MPM that I might need a different ilder arm and potentially different tie rods? Is that the case? Also would be interested in any pros / cons of such a change as well as level of difficulty in doing so. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.
  5. Hi. Looking for a chart that has the 1957 Buick accesory codes on them for the Fisher Body Tag. My Model 48 has ACC. B J on it. There must be a chart out there for them. Any help would be appreciated..Thanks..
  6. Sean, ask and you shall receive..here are the pages you are looking for. Hope this helps. DOC012111-002.pdf DOC012111-003.pdf DOC012111-004.pdf DOC012111-005.pdf DOC012111-006.pdf DOC012111-007.pdf DOC012111-008.pdf DOC012111-009.pdf DOC012111-010.pdf DOC012111-011.pdf
  7. Lamar... I think there is something to be said about your method of reviewing the hobby of stamp collecting...After your prescription, I too can clearly see that it is a 1957 Roadmaster as well..or something near that... Rob, nice post. Very interesting subject. Where did you come up with this detail of Buicks on Stamps..that is cool.
  8. Just got an email that SEMA (Specialty Equipment Manufacturers Association) and AMRO (Automotive Market Restoration Organization) has set July 8th, 2011 as collector car appreciation day. Right in the middle of Buick Nationals in Danvers. How cool is that!! Here is a link to the article. Pretty good read! 9. Thanks TG.. I have been looking for that. Found a chevy red-orange engine paint that was close, but if you have something that is exact, that would be the best!
  10. Ah...one of those "Field Calls...hmmm" So, for judging purposes, if you had a Biscay Blue car, and blue accent stripes, you would be ok for judging, no points off. Now, how does one find the correct color of these "field changes". Most of those DUCO formulas are null and void with any paint shop now. Any paint chips for this out there? The plot thickens like good gravy...
  11. Sean, I have one that goes to 1967..I will check. It should have those items in it. Are you lookig for the parts listing, assembly drawings. Let me know. Thanks.
  12. Thanks TG for the posting..now how do you know if you should have which color on your car? Is there a chart for what paint schemes would have the different colored sweepspear than the tangerine? Food for thought...
  13. TG, Can you provide me more details on the 90's Chevy Red-Orange paint that you found? I need to repaint my wheels and sweepspears and would like to buy some for that purpose. That would be great! Thanks. Jim
  14. Ok, I was trying to figure out how to rebuild the shocks on my 57 Buick, but mine don't look like yours. I have replaceable shocks. Can they be rebuilt? I have them (spiral cases) and had them replaced with new shocks, but am wondering about such replacements when it comes to judging? Mike, I am glad that you didn't get hurt..you must have had some pretty pent up energy for the vise to break like that! WOW..
  15. Greetings Tom! Congratulations on acquiring one fine automobile! Welcome to the 1957 Buick Club! Your car is a real beauty. I am amazed at how and what you found. It is like the holy grail. That is wonderful. Sorry to hear about the AC? How absurd!!! The scratches and small dents are things that are very frustrating, especially when, with a little knowledge, you could have prevented. However, that is one sweet automobile. I have had mine for 25 years, and it still turns heads..As someone said on one of these posts..everybody can get a tri-five chevy...but not everybody can get a Buick.. Enjoy your ride and the cruising season down under! Hoist an oil can for us chaps in the cold north of the equator!! Cheers!
  16. Hi team Old Tank, what is this dynamat that you refer to? I have had the same issue as you with the rust spots on my headliner from the original material falling onto it and staining it. Need to replace the headliner The burtex material has a jute backing on it, so I don't think that there is a need for additional padding, but the trim carpet that Mike refers to will work fine. I have used it before and it is inexpensive and easy to cut / glue down if you want. David, To answer your question on the battery cable. I made a new one from using components from Rhode Island Wiring. (Rwi.com | Rwi). They had exactly the cloth covered material and lugs necessary to make it. Took about 20 minutes or so. I had an NOS one, and lo and behold, it was corroded internally (so I'm guessing, cause when I changed it to the made one, it fixed by starting problems). As for paint, my original was painted as well, so I am venturing to guess that it was mounted on the engine prior to paint, probably on a sacred bolt discussed in a number of posts previous. Also, it seems that if your car had power steering, the battery cable was mounted to the engine mount, if not, it was mounted to the top bolt hole in the water pump cross-over on the front of the block. As for your fuel pump, again green, based upon the sacred bolt /gasket system of paint. Mine was green. Any fuel pump that was non original or replaced would most likely not be painted engine color, but original cast color (magnesium). I have mine off for a rebuild, but it is or has traces of the original green engine paint on it. You have me on the exhaust.. As for the pictures and measurements..I would gladly accept them from you. Anything to help get that laid out. There might be a difference in width since you have a Roadmaster, and I am working on a Special. I can deal with that. I just need to get a rough idea of the pieces and relative size. As for the material, I thing Bhigdog provided one lead, here is the lead from eBay 50 52 53 56 59 60 Rolls Packard Hood Trunk Insulation - eBay (item 190359128835 end time Feb-11-11 08:21:57 PST) Hope that works.
  17. Well, this is one that I have asked. The actual color is called tangerine, which is a little more orange-ish than a red. However, I have heard from sources very high, that Seminole Red works well and if you have full wheel covers, you only see a small amount from under the cover. As for Chaos225, If you go to BCA.com on line, print or look up in the judges manual, it will give you the proper color for your wheels. I don't have it with me know, but I know it is there. Jerry, that would be good for you as well, since my reference is to a 1957 Buick, not a 56.
  18. Pretty amazing there Rob! It is like a tar paper but heavier construction and it does have a pattern to it. You will find it on the underside of the deck lid between the structural supports and glued to the inside of the roof under the headliner. I have a section and I will post a picture of it in a bit. Stay warm in even the more frozen north, neighbor!
  19. David, If I had to guess, I would think that it controls a rear speaker...
  20. David, I have found a source for the backing material. Look up Mark II Enterprises on eBay. He has an eBay store that sells the correct waffle pattern liner material. It might be a little pricey, but it is the only place where I have seen it. I am open to other suppliers of that material as well. Thanks for the post. Any pictures of your trunk liner would really be appreciated.
  21. Nice addition TG! Great idea for MOMA in NYC..car parts as art!. As for the post on the Argent paint, I used Eastwood Argent, for GM Wheels. It has the same gloss level as the original paint and has pretty even colorations and dries fast. I used rattle cans. I am quite sure that Dupli-Color has a similar product that is not so pricey, but check the gloss. The Eastwood is in between a semi gloss and satin finish.
  22. What a beauty Jerry! Can't wait to see the step by step installation pics until the final drive out! A very sharp car.
  23. Bob, you are the man.. I am sorry that I did not explain the yellow tape stuff to the masses. As for the blades, I must use those cheapo blades..I end up using a ton, mostly breaking the tip off. Did you get your board from a local source or order it? I know that the originals had some type of graining on them, and my new ones don't, since I made them myself from the original patterns. Just wondering.
