Hi all, Many of you buy and sell on ebay. I am new at it and my experiences have generally been good. I do have a situation where I could use some advice. I purchased an item listed for a 30 buick. When I recieved the item it was marked 1932 and indeed it is a 32. It is unusable for me. The seller has apologized and offered to refund my money including the $50 shipping charge, but wants me to pay the $50 to ship it back. What do you think? Dwight

My grandfather hauled Chrysler product cars in the thirties up to WWll. He was VERY careful to wrap each car in special tarps as he was responsible for any paint damage when he got to the dealership. Dwight

Removing the gas tank apron in a 1930?
Dwight Romberger replied to Dwight Romberger's topic in Buick - Pre War
Victory! I finally was able to remove the splash apron. It was NAILED to the wood frame from underneath before the gas tank was installed. It was original. The nails are small body nails. I didn't drop the tank because the previous owner sealed it. I could look in and see the coating. But now that the apron is off, I can see the gas line and the fuel level line are kinked at 90 degrees. I can't believe any fuel at all got to the carb! I will have to drop the tank to fix it. Thanks for all your help. Dwight -
Removing the gas tank apron in a 1930?
Dwight Romberger replied to Dwight Romberger's topic in Buick - Pre War
Thanks for the input, all. I have the body bolts out. I'll try jacking up the body a bit tomorrow. I don't want to drop the gas tank if I don't have to. -
1937 1938 hood prop rods & holder
Dwight Romberger replied to Pete Phillips's topic in Buick - Buy/Sell
Hood props are popular with the rodders and I have seen them in their parts catalogs. www.filligstation.com has a set for 37-38 passenger chevys. I don't know if they would fit your buick. -
I am removing all the body parts in preparation for media blasting. I am stumped with the gas tank apron. Do I have to drop the gas tank to find hidden bolts?

Michael, Just a thought about your four key problem. Once you locate the proper cylinders, a locksmith could rekey the door and truck locks to one key. You would still have to carry an additional key for the ignition. It appears to be a different type of lock. Dwight

Michael, Bob's has the 1930 handles in the 2009-10 #56 catalog on page 75. I don't know which way to go. I have one non-locking and one locking with a missing cylinder. I currently have what appears to be three chevy or earlier buick handles. All would need replating. Dwight
-
Both reasons make sense, but from a modern viewpoint it would be extremely inconvenient! Not to hyjack my own thread, but do chevy doorhandles fit buick doors? They look very similar.

Ok, I told you it was a dumb question. The driver's door has the little locking switch like the rear doors. I assumed the driver's door would have the keyed lock not the passenger door. Duh. Thanks, Stuart

Ok, I know this is a dumb question. How do I lock the front passenger door? The driver's door has a lock. The rear doors have a small locking switch on the door panel. Should it have a locking handle?

Mark, Well, I'm glad I'm not alone. We managed to find everything we need except valve guides and outer springs. Egge is going to make them for me. It is still exciting. Thanks for the input. Dwight

Hi all, I appreciate all your leads. I checked them all out. A complete set of oversize pistons are (at least for the moment) not available. It came down to sleeves or have oversize pistons made. I decided to go with the sleeves. It seemed easier to stay with a standard size piston and rings (which are available) than to move up to a custom size piston and rings. If there is a problem in the future, for me or for those who own this car after me, we will have a better chance of finding standard size rings and pistons. I don't know if that is a good reason or not. I hope so. Dwight

Hi, I am rebuilding my engine and looking for a new, NOS or excellent condition used timing gear for a 1930-40 series, it's the same as a 1929 standard (116). Anyone have one? Dwight
-
Hi all, Anyone know a source for a 1930-40 series timing gear? Mine is worn. Rebuilder would like a "new" one. Thanks, Dwight
-
Hi all, Having my '30-40 series engine rebuilt. Can't find new pistons. Egge isn't casting them anymore. Engine rebuilder wants to put in sleeves and use the existing pistons. Is this the best choice? I appreciate the help. Dwight

Hi Neil, Unfortunately, there appears to be no current source for 1930 buick fender wheel wells or sheet metal in general. If your fenders are otherwise in good condition, having a sheet metal fabricator construct a pair using yours as a pattern is an option. You could also buy two Ford Model A fender wells (very inexpensive) and weld them together. The Model A wells are the correct width, but not the correct length. If your fenders are not in good condition, you could purchase used fenders with good wells. Your fenders are the larger style 50 and 60 series. They do come up for sale occasionally. A pair in excellent condition just sold on Craigslist. Dwight

Thanks Bob. I have repented of my temporary transgression, and decided to keep my original gear cruncher, at least as long as it is working. If it breaks down, I might be tempted to stray again. Dwight

Wow! How do they do that? A trans adapter plate? Do they use the chevy clutch?

Stan, Thanks very much. I really appreciate the info. Dwight

Thanks John and JB. Dwight

Hi All, Other than the steering wheel on the "wrong" side, is there any difference mechanically between a 1930 McLaughlin and and American Buick? Thanks, Dwight
