  1. Is this an original? If it is, it's the best name EVER put on a plaque!
  2. Does the 63 have the spring and clip like the 65? It does a good job holding the jack in place and preventing rattles!
  3. Thanks Tom! Exactly right again! The choke "tube" down to the manifold never got hooked up because it came with a compression fitting when it needed a flare fitting. Connected that, corrected the choke setting and it runs like new! Also, during a clamshell adjustment session, I had left the ignition "ON", causing points to get pitted up. Replaced those, too. I also noticed a new noise from the rear of the car, turns out one of the bushings (panhard bar) decided to fail. I have a pair on order from Cars. Looks like this restoration is not as close to complete as I thought! Owning an old Buick must be like building a log cabin, apparently those projects are never complete either! Took it to it's first car show and all comments were positive! It's amazing how many people want to see the interior of these cars! While impressive, I am more interested in the engine bay. But I guess if you don't know whats lurking under that massive air cleaner housing, buckets, console and that gorgeous dash are an attraction, too!
  4. Looking for advice on a small problem. Car starts, runs pretty well. Does not seem to go into "High idle" at start-up. This could be due to multiple pumps of accelerator to get enough fuel in to start. Choke has been backed off a bit and is fully releasing when warm. Carbs were re-built by professional - maybe not experienced with AFB's? Have not done any adjustments after installation to idle screws, just backed off the automatic choke. I am not typically starting this car cold, +10 celsius is as cold as it gets in my shop, even at -40 outside! Can you tell I'm from Canada, eh? Ideally, one pump to set choke and fast idle, start 'er up, kick 'er down after 30 seconds is what I would like to see. Thanks!
  5. Did they announce the location of next year's meet?
  6. That's a great clip!!! and a great restoration on a 65. Who's car is that? Fabulous!
  7. To remove the badge, there are 2 studs through the glove box door. There are 2 plastic dome shaped covers on the nuts on the inside. Using a very small blade screwdriver, gently pry off the 2 covers. They fit very tightly inside a "lip" under the nut. ( If memory serves correctly!) So you need to get the tip in between this lip and the dome shaped cover. Good luck!
  8. Inspired by an episode of "Wheeler Dealers", in which, Edd repairs the clock from a C2 Corvette. I decided to tackle my own. I had a spare non-working clock and proceeded to experiment with it first. I disassembled it and sprayed it with contact cleaner. I carefully dressed the contact points on the winding solenoid/motor. After "exercising" the movement by rotating the adjustment knob, I manually reset the spring mechanism... it started working right away!!! I sprayed a light coating of lubricant on the gears ( Rust Check ) and then used some canned air to remove any excess. After confirming this was a success, I duplicated the procedure with the clock from my car. Two weeks later, it is still ticking away.
  9. Wow!!! What a difference! Alignment, lower control arm bushings and pipes from the muffler back! The steering wheel is aligned, could not be happier. Steers like it was a new 65!!! Incredible.
  10. Looks like Rich's is 06A And mine is ( going from memory) possibly 01B
  11. Is the badge placement on Rich's barn find Gran Sport similar to mine? The "S" in Sport is directly below the "start of the "R" ???
  12. Here you go, Rob. The small horns may need a little adjustment, they sound a bit off. They get drowned out when I hook up their big brothers!!! I probably should've closed the hood, sounds a little meaner when its reverberating around that metal mass!
  13. Just installed the re-chromed rear bumper guards. During the re-chroming process, the threads got eaten away. We ended up tapping to 3/8 " and using 3/8 x 3/4" long bolts. It took a bit of massaging to mount these, but it all worked out in the end. I also got the 4 note horns installed. They sound great!!!
  14. Thanks guys! It looks like there is a little kick that turns the exhaust a bit to the outside, instead of straight back. Is that correct?
  15. I am looking for some pictures of stock tailpipes. I am taking it in soon to get these installed. I would like to show the muffler guy EXACTLY what it should look like. Its hard to describe in words the way the pipes exit under the bumper, if done correctly, you can barely see them unless you squat down. Thanks, Peter Hoemsen ROA # 6910
  16. O.K, just finished the installation. It makes perfect sense now. I wasn't sure how the switch would be de-activated when the accelerator was pushed. There is actually some play in the linkage connection that allows the switch to release. Working perfectly now!
  17. Thanks Rob. I'm working on it now and these pictures are a huge help!!!
  18. Hey Rob, I hooked my stator detent switch up and I got lucky! When I push the button, I can hear the solenoid click. Does anyone have a nice, clear close-up picture of how that switch gets mounted on the linkage? I can't seem to figure out how it will be activated on throttle position change. Thanks, Peter
  19. Hey Andrew, I have an air cleaner for 2x4 application. It is in very nice shape but missing a snorkle. Asking $300.00 plus shipping from Canada.
  20. Did anyone see this month's edition? It highlights the "Top 100 American Collector Cars of All Time". One of the choices for 1965 was the Riviera Gran Sport. The example they chose looks like Mr. Sweeney's ride...possibly with the man himself behind the wheel!!! Very Impressive.

    POR-15?

The general concensus around here is - Por-15 is great on rusty areas but may not adhere well to bare metal. Tremclad or similar rust paint is preferred, and less expensive. I purchased both Lizard skin products from Eastwood for my under carriage. The sound control and the ceramic (for heat), but am not sure I want to cover up my pristine under carriage.
  22. Here is a picture of the questionable badge - And the fender -
  23. O.K. , so I got the clam shells working. I had installed a brand new Standard brand Auxhillary relay - and it was defective. Just happened to have an NOS one sealed up in a Delco box! Popped it in and presto! Works like a charm! May have solved the smoking issue, found 3 spark plugs that were only in hand tight! Black gook was leaking out around one spark plug hole! Tightened them all up and it runs a lot smoother! That was his side, I did the driver's!!! He had the tough one under the A/C compressor that took longer and then must have forgotten to snug up the rest! Very strange badge placement of the Gran Sport on driver's side. It is sitting about 2" farther froward than it should be! It was the original fender ( had red over spray on inside ). I know what the critics will think, "not a genuine GS ", but it is. Has anyone seen this before? My restorer had no idea, neither one of us ever having seen the badges installed, just the bare mounting holes. He had installed the Gran Sport logo, I put the Riviera script on and something did not look right! Is it possible that this was a factory screw-up? Monday morning? Friday just before shift change? To change it properly now would mean re-spraying the fender after welding the holes up. This is urethane paint, not base/clear. Appraiser coming out tomorrow! Very curious what he pegs value at!
