This is a very dangerous statement to make on this site. Not only does everyone here have one, they have several, and if you need them to, they'll get their brother's, sister's, uncle's, aunt's, and even their neighbor's opinions for you.🤣
Hah! I'm (really!) actually looking for what you describe …

In England, a higher trim level business coupe was most often called a "Doctor's Coupe". Rolls-Royce cataloged them, as did many other of the higher-end coachbuilders. I would consider a Doctor's Coupe body style a personal luxury car.
Something else I just learned …

Classic AACA advice: "there are no electrical problems—there are merely chemical and mechanical problems which manifest themselves as electrical issues"
The electricity is always going where it has been guided to go—by something.
Best of luck in getting those issues fixed.

I'll freely admit to being quite limited in my knowledge pre-1955, which is why I always learn a lot from asking these wide open questions in General.
Thanks to all who have jumped in on this thread.

Jordan had their Silhouette model from about 1920 but was it the first?
Jordan was sure as heck selling to a "lifestyle" customer.

One piece of data, for what it's worth—Google shows the phrase "personal luxury car" as first appearing in any relevant percentage in 1958 and peaking in 1979.

I think this topic will show a divide. Lots of early, turn of the century, luxury vehicles. The modernists will be looking in the 1950s and 1960s and beyond. Luxury vehicles have been made and marketed since the horse drawn days …
I agree, but that's absolutely okay. I'm hoping to narrow from "luxury" to "personal luxury," but understand that the advent of a phrase isn't necessarily when examples first existed ...

That's a good lesson for all of us: be sure and ask questions about "the old days" of family elders before they're gone, and record what they tell you.
Yep.

If you mean the Monte Carlo/Grand Prix kind of thing, that's really a volume chassis with 2+2 seating and modified styling - gets to be a very arbitrary call. Hudson Italia? Lancia Aurelia? Bentley Continental? Alfa Romeo Freccia D'Oro?
I agree with arbitrary—that's why I'm looking for opinions. Thank you!

Nothing on newspapers.com ...

(I'm looking for opinions and from my perspective there is no wrong answer)
What was the first personal luxury car?

A black (not original color) 1970 is part of RM Sotheby's Open Roads online auction:

not out of the ordinary.
no risk for you.@Peter Gariepy is correct. Any site that gets a reasonable amount of traffic gets this kind of spam. Mine generally gets more Russian-language comment spam, but whatever …
… just a cost of doing business.

On the 63 and 64 models the plates said "built Expressly for" On 65 and later models the plates said "Custom Built For"
Does anybody know when Buick stopped offering this?

Ed , I hope you're right about the turnout next year. We have another year to wrench and polish our Rivieras for the show.
Or finally acquire one …

I will be bringing the dog with me. I won't be bringing my wife Cindy because she passed away of a sudden heart attack right before Christmas … it's just me and my dog Nikki now.
Ugh. Our best. I can't imagine.

J3, I like your 1977-78 Riviera!
That generation is very much overlooked,
but those cars are well styled, reliable, and
comfortable. Can you post another picture or two?
As far as the non-bucket seats in the 1995-99
generation, mine are tan cloth. I have seen light blue
cloth, and also leather in a dark color which I don't
recall.
I don't want to misrepresent—that 1977 Riviera is not mine (the Corvette between the two Rivieras is the one attached to me). These photos were taken at the 2019 ROA meet in Gettysburg. Two more:

Leather bucket seats will be the easiest to find.
They are on probably 99% of all those Rivieras.
Of all the Rivieras on dealer lots and in parking lots
I've seen since 1995, there have been only 3 with
the 60-40 split seat--and a hundred with the console.
I know that the leather bucket seat proviso is almost certainly my least picky requirement. Of all the folks on this forum, I believe only you and @Rivman have examples of the other two upholstery choices.
