Chrome Polishing

Blue Magic is pretty good stuff. I used up my can and found it hard to get more. So I bought some off a chrome plater in Hamilton who made up his own formula. It is pretty good.

Remember Chrome plating is porous. So is nickel. That is why copper is put on first - it is not or is far, far less porous. You may get tiny rust spots appearing in your chrome work: that is corrosion through the pores. It seems if you can remove them and the polish leaves a protective finish to exclude moisture, it will reoccur only very slowly, depending on the quality and thickness of the film you leave on.

If it is on pot metal = diecast, the craters and explosion holes of white powder are where the zinc is corroding in the pot metal. That can be fixed too fairly easily, but not cheaply - it takes a lot of time and polishing plus a couple of visits to the copper plater.
