Guest
Silver like the engine or black? And, while I'm at it, bell housing color too? Thanks, Greg
jpage
I believe that the engine, bell housing and tranny were all painted silver .Engines were painted as a long block unit so the small by-pass hose on the water pump should be painted silver too. Don't know if they were painted with the bell housing and tranny attached.

hwellens
Just for info, I have a 38 Dodge and it appears there was no silver paint on the transmission. . See picture from shop manual. Not saying this is a correct depiction either, but, looks black.
Guest
You mean it was just natural cast finish?
keiser31
I would not go by an artist rendering.

hwellens
I only showed the information I had. It may not be correct, but. can anyone show information that the transmission was painted silver other than hear say?
StillOutThere
My first car was a '38 Dodge with 18K miles in '63. The entire engine and transmission assembly certainly was all painted at once at the factory as it was the least expensive, most efficient time and way to do it. Chrysler aluminum silver or however you wish to name the color.
