1940 180 Steering box and front end

Our 40 180 has play in the steering.  Jacking up the front end and wiggling the wheels it looks like the issue is in the steering box.  My questions are:

 

1.  Are there adjustments on this box? 

 

2.  Is it it rebuildable and are parts available?

 

I was planning on using this car on a Caravan in the fall and right now this is the only issue I need to address.

Yes, of course there are adjustments, similar to almost any other steering gear box of the era. If you have any Packard shop manual of the era it will give the details. The details are also in the 1941 owner's manual. Or just consult a Motor' Manual.

From a 1941 owner's manual, I'm assuming the '40 gear box is adjusted in the same manner.

Al. I will e-mail you a "how to" on how you can fix your steering box. Your adjustments may be at their max already. Also, Lares Corp in Minneapolis rebuilds them like new. My brother just had the one on his 1941 rebuilt. Didn't take very long, either.
