I had good luck removing the ribbed aluminum from my dash with a heat gun. I used the type of heat gun that painters use to remove old paint, it gets really hot. I applied heat direct to the aluminum, the glue softened and I was able to slip a putty knife between the plastic and aluminum and I successfully removed the aluminum.
