john2dameron
George, when you go to justoldtrucks go to the What Am I column and ask Jeff Lakaszcyck (he lives in Florida) what he can tell you about the truck. He has a photo of a 1938 cab & chassis. I hate to provide his email address without his permission as I would do nothing to put our friendship at risk. Seldenguy
Don't know if it is a six or eight due to limited info on them. However they were noted to have a Lycoming engine during the years they shared "tin" with the Auburn.--Bob
NateLehoux
Hey everyone, Hello Curt! My name is Nate and I was able to find this for sale local in my area. I contacted a couple of you (Curt was actually the first one that called back) I don't have the means or funds to restore this but I think with it possibly being #2 in existence (or known to be) it needs someone to restore it. Im trying to talk the owner into selling it at a reasonable price to someone from the Auburn club so it can be restored. I just heard from George today so I will see if the owner will sell to him. Doing my best but the owner said he has refused a HUGE offer of $$$ and I don't know if that's because he thinks its worth a unrealistic amount or if hes looking for the right person to restore it and that offer wasn't the guy. We will see and Ill try to keep you guys updated.
NateLehoux
So I got a little more information from him. Nothing much about selling or donating for a restoration but Im still trying. It apparently has a 6 Cylinder Waukesha motor in it. I have no clue if its original to the truck but it is in there he said. I did a little looking at the Waukesha motor company and they did make engines for trucks in the years this Corbitt was made. They were actually doing extremely well in 1934-1937 with some of there motors being called "the best engine in the world" by some. He is taking more/better photos and said he has a video as well he will be sending me. I will be sure to post them when I have them. I told the owner even if we cant work out a sale I would like to gather as much information about it as possible to document. Does anyone know who has the official "only 1 in existence"? I think Curt mentioned something about him when he called but im curious to compare if we can. Curti
When I was searching for a Corbitt truck many years ago I think I recall there being one in an Iowa museum. I had visions of transporting my 1934 Auburn to Auburn Indiana on the flat bed Corbitt.
NateLehoux
Wow Curt, I never thought about making it into a flatbed.... that would be perfect! Would this maybe be the place you saw it? http://iowa80truckingmuseum.com/exhibits It doesn't look like they have it there now but they might know something about it? Ive sent them an email to see if they have any info. Edited August 26, 2014 by NateLehoux (see edit history)
Curti
That seems like the place Nate. After all how many truck museums are there in Iowa. I think making contact with those guys might be a good idea. There must be some old truck guys on this website that can offer some idea of a reasonable price. Maybe the museum can??
