Jolly_John
I have uncovered this Buick 6-volt starter among my extras. You'll note that it has a solenoid on top, but no top-mounted solenoid relay. This leads me to believe it is a post-1950 unit....but I really don't know. Any I.D. help would be very much appreciated. Thanks. John
Guest Commodore
It would be big help if you could give the part number of this starter.
startergenrebuilder
It's hard to tell for sure w/ all the grease and grime, but it looks like an Autolite starter which would not have been on a Buick. Can you find a tag on it or part numbers on the mounting foot of the solenoid?
Jolly_John
Thanks for your replies, Commodore and Jason. It looks like I am going to have to do what I hoped to avoid!!.....clean the years of gunk off this starter in an attempt to find the data plate. I'll do that.Jason, I'll contact you directly in a few days. Best, John
Ben Bruce aka First Born
I believe not Buick. Appears as though it would mount on drivers side. All straight eights mount on passenger side. All V8s are 12v. Ben
Jolly_John
As suggested, I cleaned this puppy up, and low and behold Jason gets the prize....the starter is an Autolite. Certainly not for a Buick! Actually, it fits my 1955 Chrysler convert. that I've owned for about 35 years. In my ultimate wisdom, I picked this starter up as a spare decades ago, and never marked it.Thanks again for the suggestions and help, guys.
