Replacing a Reatta, your opinion?

I have decided to buy another auto, have a 90 R. ragtop and a 91 coupe, one will have to go.

I am considering a late model Altima, 350Z or Lexus SC 430. Money is not really a consideration if under $40k. I do not like large cars nor 4 doors!

Opinions?

Interesting choice to make. I would go with the 350. But, I have often thought of the Chrysler Crossfire as the Reatta of today. Wonder if anyone else has similar feelings. A little underpowered at introduction, and very nice inside.

I am assuming that you like the styling of the SC 430. Frankly I much prefer the SC 400 and there are excellent examples that come available from time to time. It will also be your least troublesome car to 400,000 miles. Just my 2cts.

Perhaps I should have mentioned:

I'm old, reflexes not so good, never drive over 100 mph on I's., never drag race, my kids won't ride w/ me, I probably shouldn't either!

FWIW, we replaced my 1991 coupe with a 2004 Thunderbird, but my wife drives it. It's a good car, but lacks the versatility I want in my daily driver.

I agree with the Lexus SC400 suggestion, and would add the SC300, the 2001-2003 Acura CL and the 2003 (or newer) Infiniti G35 coupe to your candidates. Of these, only the Acura is FWD.

The Florida car looks a bit fresher. They both have a gold package with the Texas car having more of the gold worn off. Texas car is a dealer car with warranty. Either looks fine.

The Florida car looks as though it might have the better Nakamichi sound system. Not certain though can't clearly tell.

Both have cup holders which are expensive and easily broken and when missing suggest to me lack of pride of ownership and lack of maintenance.

Doesn't it depend on what kind of driving you will do? The Crossfire and 350 have minimal, as in forget anything but daytrips, trunk space. They are not true GTs. Your second post suggests you are not looking to scream around corners or make it up Pike's Peak in record time, but you don't want plush-n-slush either. If you wanted a highly underrated great road car, the late model Caddy Eldo would be my choice. The Northstar system is truly amazing. For smaller and sportier, I agree with the field, the Lexus SC400. Reatta owners, however, are unlikely to be energized by something high-production, and everything we've identified won't raise an eyebrow on the road [except the sky/solstice, for the time being.] The Jag xk still jumps out of the crowd . .

Replace the coolant regularly, like every 2 years not 5!

I started thinking Jag. Con'v. some time ago (like the older ones), then saw a 350Z, noticed the Sc 430, thought about the new caddy con'v. but have made a decision-I will keep my 90 ragtop and buy a coupe. Which coupe, not sure but have emailed the owner/seller of lexus on Ebay and contacted a car inspector nearby.

My problem, so my deceased wife used to say, is, I'm cheap and vanilla!

Sounds like a midlife crisis to me. Maybe you should check out the Viper. Or, if you want to spend some serious bucks, a Lamborghini?

Well Wally888, I have a run of the mill ES300 Lexus and I LOVE it - it drives like a dream. I wish I could have the SC430 so of course I'd advise you to look in that area. If I'm not mistaken, the SC400 isn't a convertible, only the SC430... but you're looking for a coupe anyways!

My sister has a 350Z and she really enjoys it, but I didn't think it was too comfortable.

As I understand the Crossfire is still available. At least you can rent a new one from Budget to see if you like it.

As a British car former owner of 4 Triumphs etc. I'd stay away from non-Ford Jags, which takes away a lot of the styling and fun I think. Take this as a warning, I bought my Reatta for reliability after the Triumphs, and haven't been dissappointed.

Don't think luggage is a major concern for you, and my boss who has a year on me at 61 has a 66 Sting Ray and new Ferrari, so you're never too old.

And I had Spitfire, TR-4, and TR-6. The most recent, the 6 went up in flames 4 years ago, but she was sweek.

Let me know how you make out in your pursuit. Kind of got myself thinking about the Crossfire now.

Ferrari? Lambo? I'd get a Corvette Z06. 505 American HP you could probably work on in yoiur driveway if you had to, for like 1/3 the price

I enjoy my '04 crossfire. Suspension is stiff but not nearly as rough as the 350. Trunk space is limited but do-able. Chrysler gave me a set of luggage configured for the odd space but i just use my duffel bag when trecking back and forth from the Poconos to Philadelphia. Plenty of power with automatic trans. However, if you are tall, forget the crossfire. I am 5'11" and wide shouldered. It is a snug fit.

Now my interest is peaked. One of the complaints about the Reatta has been room, particularly head.Does the Crossfire even come off cramped compared to the Reatta? Well I'm going to rent one from Budget to check it out.

dontcha guys know that a lexus is just a fancy toyota? why not get an older corvette? they will attract much more attention than a toyota with shiny wheels. i really hate japanese cars, and that is all i have to say on that subject. the mid-late 80s corvettes are selling cheap right now.

Amazing the old thoughts this post has brought up for me. How bout this for an option.

There is a company called "Fourintune" in Cedarburg WI, who will build you essentially a "new" Austin Healey 3000 with a body&frame you supply, or one they have. If memory serves me correctly from my British Car days the owner is Mike Kovaks.

In my opinion... There will NEVER be a replacement for the joy of owning and driving a hand crafted Buick Reatta. With that said, my optimum suggestion would definitely be the Pontiac G6 GT Hardtop convertible! Check out the pictures attached and I think you will agree. Good luck with your search :-)
