To be as brief as possible, my brother and I own a sm. used car lot in S.E. Pa and we came across an 89 Reatta today and are intrigued as to whether we should purchase it, possibly for re-sale, possibly for a display piece. The information I have on the car from the current owner is as follows 89,ooo miles, black har top with grey interior. Boday and interiors are in really really nice shape. I see absolutely no rust, in fact very few minor blemishes on the paint, he supposidly has owned it for the last 11 years. Everything seems to work as it shoudl EXCEPT a/c is blowing cold. Barney Eaton Posted October 27, 2006 Share Posted October 27, 2006 Being in the business, you should know that a huge factor is the mileage.If you can buy a 50K car for $3,000 it is a no brainer. However if it has 150,000 and no major problems you might make a few $$ but don't expect a 150K car to sell for $7,000There were 7,009 Reattas built in 1989 and maybe 15% were black (GM did not publish the number built in each color) Black cars were available with tan, grey, and some burgundy interiors. My guess in round percentages would be about 50% were tan, 40% were grey and 10% red. There were only two options on a 1989 Reatta, the sunroof and the 16 way seat. olbuickman Posted October 27, 2006 Share Posted October 27, 2006 Brad, I just got done having my air conditioning rebuilt on my 1990 convertible.I figured it was going to cost about 1,000 in parts and labor and sure enough it came pretty close. Yes we can find the cars for 3-4, but if I had a used car lot, I'd try for 6K with the mileage mentioned. At that price you probably won't get many from this forum, but I'd expect we'll get a new member after it sells. And as an added plus, ours may sell for more eventually as a result. I can't tell you how many heads turn when I'm out in it. It just makes me <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />! I love the fact that they are more rare and you don't see 3 or 5 or even 10 in the front row of a car lot. (Mustangs are ALL OVER THE PLACE!) Having the Reatta in your show room, may bring people in to see what it is.This forum is FABULOUS! The people are the GREATEST! The KNOWLEDGE is never ending!It has been a llllllloooooonnnnnggggggg time since I have had a sports car and it seems this one was just waiting for me. Howard Posted October 27, 2006 Share Posted October 27, 2006 Welcome Brad! I too have an 89. Up until the past year, I've found it to be a fun and reliable car. I hope my problems have been resolved. I bought mine in 1998 for $6150. For many years I worked as a Comptroller for a few car dealerships. One former employee wanted to open his own used car lot, and he ask me if I could set up the accounting for his operation. For about two years I worked part time for him. That is where I met my Reatta. He had bought it from a wholesaler. In point of fact, the car bounced from dealership to dealership for almost a year. Dealerships, at least in my part of the world, have trouble finding financing sources for older cars. For $6500+, it's hard to find someone with the much cash wanting to buy a two seat car that, at the time, was almost 10 years old. Anyway, my friend bought the car for his lot. When he saw my interest, he offered it to me for $150 more than he paid for it. Since I did the books, I knew what he paid for the car, and felt the deal was more than fair. At the time, my Reatta had just turned over 80,000 miles. Today it has 154,000. As to the air, it may be something simple. However, as in another post stated, my guess is that the repair could be $1000+. As a personal car, I think you would find it a fun car to own. From the business side, I really don't think the car would sell very quickly. As a small operation, you may not want to tie up the money in the car and A/C repair. I had been looking for them for a while an wanted something whereby I didnt have to pay $1000.00 in shipping to so FloridaI guess I lucked out. the dealr that I bought the car from (DTAUTOMOTIVE in Longwood FL) was very thorough about the car, and seemd to had picked a good one for his lot.It just needed some mino thing, then I tinted the windows for the So Florida hear, and put some new Chrmoe wheels. Well I have to say it is an eyecatcher. EVERYONE stops me to talk about the car. I have 5 Cars, a New CRV, New MDX, New Passat and the last of the VW Cabrio's. the one I now seem to be using the most is the REatta. I originally bought it to keep and look at in the garage, but i love the way it drives sooo very much that I use it anytime I canMine has 91k miles on it, had a beautiful paint job before I bought it, not a single scratch dent or rust makr.
