SteamShovel1923
Can anyone tell me what this Boyce temp gauge fits, car or motorcycle. It has a date of 1916 on it and the green dot in the middle turns to red when overheating. Nickle plated.

drwatson
Cool! Is there a patent number and/or full patent date? If there is, could you list it here? We might be able to find a copy of the original application.

Lozierman
Looks very similar to one that was an accessory to many cars. I have even seen one installed on a Model A Ford. It actually mounted on the steering column just under the steering wheel. It even had a small light bulb so you could see the engine tempature at night.Does this one have the sending unit too? It is inserted into one of the engine head bolts to send the temp to the gauge.
SteamShovel1923
This one has the sending unit in perfect condition, it looks like exactly as you describe it, it work perfect. What is the value of it?Thanks for your help Dan
Terry Bond
Made for steering column fitting. These came out as optional accessories for people who either didnt want to have the temp meter out on the radiator cap where it could be damaged or stolen, or for those who had cars where the external radiator cap may have only been decorative. These were popular in cars from the early to mid 30's where you had to actually raise the hood to get to the radiator cap. There wasn't any room for an external temp meter. Like all Boyce motometers they were also available with different face plates with car names/logos on them, etc. There isnt much that can go wrong with them, except they were made of pot metal and didnt hold up too well. Condition-wise your's shows all the typical pot metal plating problems. Its useful as a collectors item and as such would probably bring $50 or so on ebay. Every motometer collector has to have one though, so that's only a guess. I once traded a NOS in the box version with Hudson face plate for some pretty nice spark plugs. That one was minty and probably would have gone nutz on ebay today.Terry
