Reatta Man
Interesting development:http://www.detnews.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20060828/AUTO02/608280321/1322 Recalls are skyrocketing -- so much so that Toyota last year recalled more vehicles (2.38 million) in the United States than it sold (2.26 million). ... Oh what a feeling! 55PackardGuy
Question:Once Toyota merges with GM, and Nissan merges with Ford, how will the battle go on buying "imports?" Will it just turn into a badge-war?And, will the resulting coportations be named as Daimler-Chrysler was, and end up Toyota-GM and Nissan-Ford, or will the Americans get to stay first in line when the other two "Big-Three" car makers cave? I think it depends on who brings the most to the table, and as someone mentioned, Toyota has about 10 times as much cash as GM.This is probably going to happen, you know.

55PackardGuy
And, if you gotta buy American to be American--good luck buying much of anything manufactured that has more than a few parts to it.Oh well, if it comes down to buying American, how about trying to buy things you KNOW that somebody in the U.S. at least made a few bucks assembling?BTW, didn't "Chrysler" just drop out of the "Big 3" recently? I bet the other domestic auto manufacturers are just itchin' to merge with a European outfit... everything "furrin" ain't necessarily an improvement, that's for sure!

For now.
55PackardGuy
O man, but that's just kowtowing to Madison Avenue, isn't it? If it comes down to just buying things that have a good ol' American name on them, they'll have a field day leading us around by the nose. Oh wait, they already do that--with "badge engineering" and supposedly "Amercan" cars with over half the "content" from outside the country. Take a look at Toyota's pickup names, and you get an idea how well this works-- Tacoma, Tundra-- I'm waiting for the new Toyota Texan!
