24T42
Yesterday I received the current list of Regions and Chapters that want to exchange newsletter. I was wondering if you participate in the program, how many newsletters do you actually exchange?
Guest BruceW
Hi Judy,I received the list also. I currently exchange with 7 other editors. I exchange with three nearby regions surrounding ours in order to keep up on the local news and the goings on in the neighboring regions. The other four are "long distance" editors that I often share ideas with.I probably could exchange with more, but the number I exchange with now and the (currently) 8 National copies make about 20 percent of my total copies printed pages. I don't know if that is a high or low percentage compared to other editors.. but with my budget.. I figured it to be on the upper end of what I should exchange (non-paid) compared to the members (paid for issues)
Guest Debby Soucia
I do 5 on the list and two other clubs here. I like to do the close ones for the shows I don't find. I also like to do far away so I get ideas!Debby
Guest leadfoot
Chesapeake Region exchanges with 17 clubs, both AACA and others, in our area. We do this to keep up with the many calendar listings, find interesting reprint material, and to promote our shows and events. We're considering adding a few more. The real cost is under $5/year/club for postage because we have the spare newsletter copies and the exchanges help promote our club.
R W Burgess
Gosh Judy, you know how hard it was for me to figure this out. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />I was counting addresses...1, 2, 3, 4,...the phone rings! Darn!I start over...1, 2, 3, 4,. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />Ok, my joke for the day. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />I mail out 136 newsletters a month, give or take (depends on whether anyone badmouths last month's issue, you know <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />). 24 of those go to different regions, with 3/4 of those being local regions. I love having a late monthly mailing. You can always check a local newsletter to make sure you didn't leave out anything important(Thanks Guys!). <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />I'm listed on the exchange list again this year, but will probably start exchanging new editors for those that I have exchanged with for a while. Well, gosh guys, if you haven't learned anything by now! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/blush.gif" alt="" /> Just kidding!I do love reading the out of state For Sale Ads. I almost call an out of stater last month for info on the very nice Pontiac Tempest listed for sale, a nice car for Mike, if he ever succeeds in getting a license. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />Roger Wilhelm(Real name hidden to protect myself) <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
24T42
Wayne,With that many newsletters, I think you must be an undercover agent for the Publications Committee!?!Ok - Does anyone use bulk mail?
R W Burgess
Judy, We looked into that. One of our members said we didn't have enough circulation or something like that. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />Either that or we couldn't legally do it. This was a wasted post, right? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />Wayne
tcmb67
Judy:The Minnesota Region uses bulk mail to mail out it's magazine. There is a fee that you pay every year. the region mails out about 450 magazines. If you PM me I can give you our editor's email address and you can ask them for more information. novaman
Judy, right now I'm sending 3 extra issues: Great Smokey Mountian Region, Zooland Region, and to some guy named Wayne up there in VA.at roughly 50 issue at month I can't see bulk being feasable, even if it can be done. R W Burgess
Dave, Kinda weird how you use "Smokey", "Mountain", "Zooland", and "Wayne" in the same sentence. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/confused.gif" alt="" />You trying to say something there, David? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />
24T42
Wayne,You need to mail out a minimum of 200 pieces (all the same) to qualify for the bulk rate. Bulk rate can lower your costs from $.39/newsletter for one ounce to as much as $.24/newsletter for one ounce depending on how much sorting you do. That's a savings of $.17 each. That equates to being able to mail out 201 newsletters at bulk rate vs. 124 at first class rate. There are several problems with bulk rate though like a one time imprint fee of $160, an additional annual fee of $160, and specific ways to sort the mail by zips. But the worst thing is that bulk rate is always placed at the bottom of the pile and only gets handles when all else is done. It can set at the Post Office for days. R W Burgess
Thanks Judy, I never followed through with the complete story on that. I could probably save a lot by cutting back on my "comp" and exchange copies, but I enjoy reading about the other regions exploits/activities. I don't think our members would put up with late copies. I'm barely able to get them out on time as is. Procrastination, being ther biggest problem. I have more trouble getting motivated here lately. The wife's noticed it too."When you going to cut the grass, Wayne"? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />"When you going to wash the windows, Wayne"? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" />"When you going to paint the house Wayne"? <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/crazy.gif" alt="" /> I think I'm going to change my name! <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" />"Robert"
Guest ChefJenk
I'd be happy to email our newsletter just let me know and I'll add you to our regions list. We just started mailing to the exchange list. Currently we only send to the regions closest to us. We send a few of our WAY out of state members a .pdf to save on postage. If you'd like you can view it on our website as well Homepage click The Tailpiper link. Last month I began using MS Publisher and the members really liked the new look.-Matt
R W Burgess
Nice web site Matt. I see it's new, but well set up. Looking forward to seeing you on the "stage" in Philly someday soon. <img src="http://forums.aaca.org/images/graemlins/laugh.gif" alt="" />Wayne
