Now our web site is set up but has not been updated for 2 years. How hard is it to update this site? Should it be done by some one that knows a lot about it or can a computer dummy learn? Most WEbmasters on here are using the "Front Page" program, which works or is used very similar to the way Microsoft Publisher is. My son, Mike, has not had any trouble getting his going, but like you said you need to haev the access codes to get in, and I'm sure PeterG can help you there. I know he did it before you changed to the new web sites if that helps any. Is it hard to update? novaman Posted February 28, 2006 Share Posted February 28, 2006 With frontpage you have a couple of options as to how you do things. Some (at Philly it seems most) webmasters do all the editing online. Some do it like me, offline, then upload the changed pages to the site. I like doing it this way because I can preview the pages offline without someone seeing what I had goofed up (and I can do it big time) before getting it changed. Also, I'll work on new pages and I can check the links offline to other pages as I do the work. There again, tell FrontPage "do not publish" forthat page, and it stays only on you computer.FrontPage can be used as a drag and drop type program or you can write the codeing if you know how. I only do the code part to fix things. You already have a good start for the site, so I'd either do the updates online or publish the remote (online) to local (computer) and start there. I think (and Peter G. can correct me if I'm wrong) that you need to publish the site via Front Page when you have your site on the AACA server. I like novaman do the changes off line and then publish the site. I find that Front Page uses most of the same commands as the rest of Microsoft's other programs. If I might suggest a book to read, it's called "Front Page 2003 for Dummies" written by Asha Dornfest. I am sure you can get it at most book stores. It's a good refrence book to have. Good Luck! As the others said, you will need the right program to update the website. But if it was created in FrontPage, you should have few problems working with it. If you know Word or Publisher, you can do FrontPage. Bear in mind that there are no tabs in FrontPage, so anything that needs to be spaced out is best done in tables.If you can work offline and then publish, that is the wisest thing for a beginner to do. (I wish someone had told me that when I first got started.)Don't hesitate to post your "how to" questions here.
