Hi, my name is Danny, after looking for about four years, I finally found the 56 Special I wanted. I have restored a 1970 VW Bug and have wanted another project since completeing the VW. I am Mechanical engineering student at California State University who has alot of trouble staying out of my garage. I know VWs, guess now it's time to learn the ins-&-outs of Buicks.

Thanks for all the motivating words, I wish I could fast forward and have all the knowledge you get with restoring a car, but I guess that's all the fun.

"those polished mini-light wheels(DizzyDale)"

Yes they are high polished, but I wish they were chrome. They're a pain in the butt to keep shiny. I think it's because they're a cheap brand, poor quality.

Look real good when their clean though, and far less to polish than a Buick!

I believe this car has 'mini-lite' wheels...

Seeing as this is a more appropriate forum, I will keep all of you updated from here.

what's been going on...

The light switch: I put the switch back in and connected all the wires. I was very happy to find out that the lights are working.

The only thing i need to look into is the inside indicators for the turn signals, and the back-up lights. Is that red light above the cluster for the e-brake?

MrEarl, thanks for taking the time to look into the switch, I appreciated it.

"If you think a 56 is slow on take off, you oughta try a 54. 'bout as fast as a turtle sprintin thru peanut butter(MrEarl)."

I guess I'll be getting no where in a hurry!

John, someone told me that the 'j bars' were optional, but i had no idea the exhaust cut-outs were. I guess I have a car with a little character. Were dual exhaust an option?

Thanks for the link, I'm going to contact him about the switch, and a spin-on oil filter adapter from a 59/60 Buick. Does anyone know if this change will work with my engine?

Got the problem with the exhaust fixed. Turns out, there was a lage gash after the manifold. Until I get a new system that goes all the way to the rear, I replaced the broken section.

not the best quality work, but at least the car doesn't sound like a tractor anymore!

OK, not too much progress, but i got a 55/56 headlight switch of ebay. I was happy to discover that it works great with a test light, even the reostat(sp?), it should only need a little modifying to fit the Buick.

Along with a new Carter, I also received a full set of Felpro gaskets to put everything back together properly.

I'm getting real anxious about driving the car, can't wait to hear it run again!
