because it is disconnected. I found the brown wire that I believe connects to the coil but am not sure where to connect it. Chances are the tach won't work once I connect it but I have to try that first. The service manual doesn't have much info on this, especially for someone mechanically declined as me. <P>Any help would be appreciated.

So it has been years on and off and this tach does not work. Any thoughts on using the parts from a newer working tach and using my old dial face to have the advantage of new electronics with the stock appearance? This must be what the restoration guys do for 400.00. I can't spend that much. Hope I explained this well.

The tach should be a pretty simple unit. Before going to a lot of trouble retrofitting a new Tach, why not see if there is an electronics repair shop in your area and make an inquiry if they will look at the unit? Chances are there is a coil inside and the coil wire has broken. Could be a simple solder job will fix it.
