R W Burgess
Mrs. Fuller, As you can tell by the 29 views, this is a good place to post your loss. As our members buy a lot of restorable vehicles, I'm sure we'll be on the lookout. Welcome to the forum, by the way. Wayne Burgess
Amphicar BUYER
Best of luck to you. It is not unheard of to recover thme years after. I had a personla experience with this. In 1989 I had left my '66 Cadillac DeVille ragtop a friend's body shop. The next day I went there and it was gone. I knew Earl was going on vacayion and just thought he put it inside. That was until he got back 2 weeks later and asked me when I was bringing the car down. It did even not run at the time. Long story short is that exactly 11 1/2 months later a State trooper was bored and looking through the hot list and a '66 Caddy popped up with 2 title numbers and a current temp tag. He checked it out and sure enough it was mine! The great part is that I got to drive it home! It was in a body shop ready for paint, new top and many mechanical repairs made. I asked him to leave it there for another month until they could finish it, but he declined. As it turned out it was sold to 2 people who knew it was hot, then sold to an unfortunate guy who didn't. He paid for a title search and soon got a title to MY car. Then he began the restoration. The last guy really lost out and I am not sure what happened with him. He did try to sue me for the money he spent on my car. I tried to explain to him that that case is a 100% lost case. It was always MY car no matter what he thought. He needed to go after who ever provided the title (The state of Colo). So keep up your search, they can only get away with it if you give up!!! Guest imported_SKYSTHELIMIT
The guy got a title for it even though you reported it stollen? How in the world didn't whomever give him the title did not see this! Also your car was in the system as hot so wouldn't have that tipped of the cops as soon as someone tried to get a title for it and not 11 1/2 months later after some poor soul put a ton of money into it? Kinda sounds fishy to me like maybe the guy who was restoring the car could have been the one who stoll it in the first place. Amphicar do you know how long he held a title for the car? Amphicar BUYER
Yes, even though it was reported stolen and on the hot sheet for almost a year, he got a state issued title. I think he had the title for about a month. He was not connected to the thief nor the two others who had posetion of it who knew it was hot. (I know who stole it) He was just a guy who got took. Gives you warm fuzzys about the "system" doesn't it? I do not know how it turned out for him. He never did understand that it was never his car, nor did I write the law. He blamed me! 6219_Rules
In Texas, a friend of mine loaned his car to a friend he was helping out. The guy was a bit of a loser and eventually stole the car...eh borrowed it anonymously...and headed out of Houston.A month later it was found half way across the state, badly abused, filled with trash and nastiness from having been lived in and used...well, you get the picture. It was returned and the insurance cleaned it up but the guy waltzed into Houston a bit later and was never arrested. When confronted, the police said once you give a person permission to use your car, they cannot steal it, or at least it is impossible to prove. The moral of that story is NEVER, EVER loan your car to ANYONE. I will never understand it....like the cop who said the guy who held a loaded shotgun to my chest was not threatening me because he did not tell me he was going to shoot me AS he cocked and pointed it at me.

R W Burgess
Not to sidetrack too much, but my wife pestered me some time ago about taking her out to a big night on the town. Well, I refused! She asked me if I didn't want to see her again for 3 days? I laughed! HA!... She was right, took me 3 days, but I could just start to see her a "little" of her out the right eye after the swelling went down. Gotta pay close attention to warnings like that. Wayne
