Frankenmuth will be very busy, but you should love it. Open your wallet for the huge X-mas store. Any questions , give me a call,( 517-655-2421) I will be seeing you all at the Windgate etc. , but I will be driving back and forth. Plus I have a friends place in Grand blanc.Downtown flint, is nothing special, but the planned activities shoud be plenty.If you had alot of time , Mackinaw Island is the place to go, and or Greenfield village. And the Mich. History Museum in Lansing , MI. Well enough , see you all soon, Barney, any idea on Reatta Registered numbers? I'm hoping other locals will update road construction as well. I-75 North of Flint is still under construction. I-475 North of the Wingate is still under construction. I-69 East and West of I-475 and I-75 is still under construction. Holly road east of I-75 is still under construction.Next week I'm planning to stop at the Wingate each afternoon M-W(16:00-17:00) to check on arrivals. I drive a red '88. Barney is scheduled to come in on Monday and he has all contact info for me.Hope we can put a couple of impromtu's together. The more locals available to offer their recommendations, the more likely visitors will find what they are looking for.Primary commuter times in and around Genesee County are 0500-0830 and 1400-1800.Lunch (1030-1230) can typically have line waits at fast food drive thru's.Lots of folks commute south, so North bound I-75 and US-23 are very busy for those arriving from southern points in late afternoon. According to their itinerary, they were/are here in my neck of the woods (they were to be in Carlisle PA for a Corvair show on the 16th). BUICK RACER Posted July 19, 2003 Share Posted July 19, 2003 There's about 5 carwashes within 5 miles of the hotel, on Hill Rd, have automatic high pressure water and hand bays the best bet is to the west on the south side, but the hotel may also have been asked to supply towels and hose! There are at least 3 or more couples from Australia staying with local Buick folks. Met Norm and Mickey today they've been here since Tuesday. Norm was washing his host's Park Ave when I went over there today! <img src="http://www.aaca.org/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/cool.gif" alt="" />P.S. There was an article in the Flint Journal about a month ago, about how the hotels were stocking up on towels for the carwashing needs. I forgot to save it! They have a good wine selection and will even do a Port and cheese tray after dinner (but you need to ask for it). The Crossbow has a nice filet and porterhouse, very reasonable, but very busy and crowded. Great salad. Very limited wine, think "coolers". The Redwood Lodge (micro brewery) probably most local notable, complete with a cigar bar. Varied menu, specializing in beef and game meats. Even carry J Lohr Cabernet. Site of occasional wine tasting events. Lots of mesquite grilled items. Portions are good.Just off I-75 at the Clarkston exit is a nice place called ...Mesquite Creek... and has quite good prime rib. Nice horesradish sauce. Not sure on the wine selection.In Goodrich there is a small place called Cranberry's. Excellant but pricy.Daniel's chop house has a pretty mean apple smoked NY Strip. The Reatta section is just as you arrive off Walnut street. The whole front lawn of Whiting Auditorium is reserved for Reattas. Several had taken up residence. Alot of shade trees in that area. The concept cars were on display, Blackhawk, Lucene,......plus the original GM show car a '53 LeSebre. Very neat stuff. The Buicktown folks are really doing great. Huge effort.Be around the Wingate later for dinner. Some went to the Crossbow last night. Heard it was good but very crowded and busy. A good sized group went and said service was slow. Met some more Reatta owners last evening and the owner of a Select 60. (and to think that a couple of months ago, I didn't even know Select 60's existed.)More updates later. Folks from Alaska drove in. Went for pizza at Luigi's with George Madsen and his wife, Jim Finn and his wife, Domenick from out east, and Drive it like you stole it. Lots of people hanging around the Wingate with Reattas overtaking the parking lot. Cars washed in the back corner and maintenance work of all kinds being performed as participants scurry over their vehicles. A local showed up with 9 copies of the complete 1990 FSM on CD and is offering them for $35 each. I mentioned that he should post here. Have to get ready for the Frankenmuth run, update tomorrow. Tell any other Reatta owners that they can get the same thing and the 86 - 93 P&I for under $5. If anyone has already bought one I'ld like a listing of files on it, just to see if it is my work. Most strolled the shops before dinner. Drive it and I found a local tap room and another local micro brewery. All the walking can make one thirsty. The dinner was literally all you could eat and I believe most enjoyed it. Met lots and lots of new and quite interesting owners. Some very subtle custom touches were on display.Drive it...really enjoyed meeting you. Hope your trip home was safe and event free. The beverage at dinner was a real touch of class. The Mrs. and I both thank you. Hope to meet again.Bob Neuman, Barney and Nancy, plus a host of others are really working their butts off to provide a memorable show. A heartfelt thank you.Regarding the CD. Before things get too out of hand, let me make an attempt to explain the parts of the story that I know. There is a local owner (Steve ?) who has a 1990. He has been seeking a FSM for some time. As I drive mine to work, he saw me one day and mentioned his frustration at locating a '90 FSM. I suggested he start here. He tried the phone numbers etc with no luck. A few days ago, I think last week, there was a post regarding a UK web address whereby the manual was available. It required a high speed connection and some other things to make it work. I printed off the post and forwarded it to Steve so he could get access to the info for his car. Steve stopped by the Wingate and mentioned that he had gone to Kinkos, spent 35 minutes on their high speed line and another 6 hours making hard copies of the FSM. He had 3 large notebooks and had paid over 300 dollars for the retreival of the information. He made 10 copies of the CD and was keeping 1. He thought others could avoid the Kinkos event and was offering only the 9 CD's at $35 each to recover some of his cost. When I see him again, I will mention the irritation that this has caused. I do not believe he had any intention to "profit" from the hard work of others, I think it was just an offer of, "35 minutes at Kinkos is going to cost 35 dollars anyway and here is a copy already done..."I do not wish in any way to jeopardize my reputation with this forum. If I have erred, then please forgive me. My only interest was to get Reatta information to a Reatta owner who inturn spent time and money to retreive the information. Today is the judging meet, I will not be there. Tomorrow is the biggest day of the Buick show and local news is predicting 40,000 people. I will update later. Talked to Steve, mentioned the current state of hostilities. He assured me that there was no intent to "profit" from the FSM, just thought he could recover some of his $300 spent at Kinkos. I'm still a bit miffed, a step or two better than pissed. I can't count the hours it took to scan all 1965 pages and the $127 the paper manual cost in the first place. The whole download from the UK only took me just a few minutes at home (DSL). I know Kinko's is expensive but still. All three .sits are 53 MB so at 1Mb/sec = 53x8 = under 500 seconds (under ten minutes which is about what I recall) and will fit on a $19.95 64 MB thumb drive. Find an XP machine with a USB port at a library with a good pipe and... Frankly think the 90SM and the P&I is just the beginning. Next we need an 88-89 suppliment (mostly the electrical diagrams and touch screen information), the relevant TSBs, a '91 suppliment, a complete www.reata.org, and the best of the forum. Might even have room for a few PROM dumps. Suspect it would all fit on a single CD and *that* would be worth a significant "donation". Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
