Kennys60lives
I have 2 1960 Buick Electra 2 door hardtops and the transmissions are completely different in each. Both appear to be stock with no adaptor plates. How can I identify what I have and which is better to rebuild?
Frank DuVal
Well, the first picture is clearly a Dynaflow. AFAIK that was the only transmission in a 1960 Buick. Obviously I'm wrong!😮 Maybe. I can tell the engine in the second photo is a Nailhead, from the valve covers Maybe someone dropped a late 63 to 66 Buick Nailhead engine in with an open driveshaft and the Turbo-Hydromatic 400 transmission. The 1960 would have come with a Dynaflow and a closed driveshaft. What driveshaft's are in both cars?
Frank DuVal
Also post this question in Buick Post War further down the topics page. Lots of Buick spoken there.👍
Ben Bruce aka First Born
Just a WAG, but I am guessing someone changed the drivetrain to a '61 or later in the car the second one came from. Ben
60FlatTop
The second picture is a turbo hydramatic. The vacuum modulator and housing ID it. 13 hours ago, Kennys60lives said: I have 2 1960 Buick Electra 2 door hardtops and the transmissions are completely different in each. Are these two cars in pieces and you scooped up the whole load?
