1966 Buick Riviera GS bucket seat foams

Recommended Posts

I just had some bad luck ordered a set of riviera bucket seat foams two years ago so I could rebuild my seats. It’s taken this long to finally have my upholstery guy get to them, he is very good and that is how long the waiting list is. The issue now is that the bottoms fit perfectly but the seat back foams do not, seems there is a regular seat back and it looks like the GS has a custom seat back which is 2” narrower at the top and has a crease in the foam across near the top for the vinyl tie down. Original parts group to their credit will refund me for the foams but I would be happy to keep them because the bottoms are great quality. I need to find a source that has the molded backs for the Riv GS, has anyone else experienced this issue and have a solution?

Clark’s does not and in their catalo the specifically state that the cushions the sell do not fit the 1965 Custm seats.  I know of no one who sells them.  If your upholstery guy is good, he can make some using what’s left of your originals as a guide.

The US Dept of Transportation has set seating standards for cars a ling time ago. Buick or s Buick doesnt sell seat springs. However Ames sells seat springs that fit a 63 Riviera. Ask how I know?

A long time trusted member that actually does the work on cars pointed me to Ames. Ames supplies Pontiac Parts. I ended up with seat springs for the front of my 63 Riviera. I purchased 1966 GTO seat springs that fit my 63 real good. Go to Ames and drill down to Interior seat springs and find GTO 66 seat springs and see if dimensions match. My upholsterer was a hard ass and told seat pads were not why I needed. Upholsterer put in the padding. If you want it but cant find it let me know.

I should have clarified this is a 1966 Riviera GS, the original parts group seat foams have the verticle reveals for attachment but they should be angled at the top to 12 1/2 inches but they are straight 14 1/2 top and bottom, there is a reveal that runs across near the top, that is missing all together. How does anyone rebuild these buckets, there must be foams available somewhere one would think🤷🏻‍♂️

The GS did not have specific seats. There was a standard interior and deluxe interior, buckets or bench, and the GS and non GS could have either. You have the deluxe interior from the looks of it. No one makes the seat foams you are seeking and honestly I'm surprised the bottoms fit so consider yourself lucky. Apparently Pontiac or other GM model must have same bottom. An accomplished upholsterer can rebuild or make new make new foam assuming there is enough left of the original for a pattern. Usually the seat backs survive pretty well.

I saw JEGS advertise on eBay 79590, 79588 Bucket Seat Bottom Spring assembly 68-72 GM Buick Riviera. Below the ad seat foams were shown.

This could be lead that can get you what you need.
