owlduckchicken
I ended up with this cap in a random auction lot, and I can't identify it. Seems to be steel, not aluminum. 8.5 inches. Does anybody know this one? Front/back pic below. I have some others including a set of 4 MGs that I took a quick pic of one of. They are a tiny shade under 9 inches. I don't want to be taking up y'alls time too much, as I am not a collector but a seller. So, my second question is, are there resources I can use to narrow down what I have so I am not constantly bothering people? Google Lens sometimes gives me something that looks matching, but I don't necessarily trust that the person describing the matched cover knows what it actually is either, when it comes down to specifics like the model year or whether something is OEM or repro. I have heard Hollanders mentioned but I don't know if it has good photos, or which edition is best to buy, or if it would help a novice like me. All help appreciated, thanks! keiser31
1960 or so Austin for the first one. The MG item looks like the ones that were on my 1952 MG TD. Edited November 27, 2023 by keiser31 (see edit history)
rocketraider
John Keiser manifesto!😎 If he or The55er can't ID something on an old car, it's unidentifiable! Much appreciation to both!
owlduckchicken
Keiser31, thank you very much for your answer! What does anyone think about that Hollander book as a resource? They're not very expensive, maybe I should just buy an old one.
TerryB
No pictures for openers. Otherwise good info especially for things with part numbers or you know you have a part and you want to know what different vehicles.
owlduckchicken
TerryB thanks for telling me. No pics would be a dealbreaker for me I think, since I'm starting from a state of cluelessness. Ah well, I will maybe keep an eye out for one really cheap at an auction...which is how I got myself into this situation in the first place!
