STuTZ693
Hello all, The passenger side axle broke on my friends 1928 Model 8-70 Touring Phaeton. We are looking for a replacement axle or entire rear end. The axle in the car broke at the splines. Thank you all in advance, Dan Columbus, Ohio area
JFranklin
Use the search feature. I remember a post with the name of someone making new axle shafts.

STuTZ693
Al: I do not have a photo at this time I can get one next week. It is tappered with a key and lefy hand thread. JFranklin: Thank you. Dan
alsfarms
Dan, If you can determine the dimension of the splines and total length, you know what the taper and threads are......a good machine shop should be able choose a robust material, do the machine work, suitable heat treat and presto........you have a replacement axle. STuTZ693
Hi Al, I have not looked into that yet. I am not sure how far the owner wants to go. The Locomobile is in a collection with 44 other cars so keeping the car road worthy may not be a priority. (which is shame!!) The other axle is OK but I would recommend he also replace it since the only difference would be the direction of the threads. I had that machine work done on that front spindles of my 1925 STuTZ to restore the bearing fits. It worked great. Thanks, Dan
