dodge28
Mates, I need some advice please. My 1928 Dodge Senior is not driven too often and as a result the next time I try to start I must remove the line at the vacuum tank and fill it up manually. This is repeated . I am thinking about installing some type of device to prime the vacuum tank. I remember years ago conversing with ancient comrade who lived in that era said they used bicycle pumps and reversed the packing . Some sort of corresponding valve was soldered at a strategic point on the line. In those days there were no electric pumps. A kerosene lamp was left alight overnight in winter under the oil pan. Tall Story ? I appreciate some feedback. Thank you.
stakeside
I had same problem. I placed a shut off valve below the vacuum tank and i close it every time i let the car set. I haven’t had a problem since then.
nat
A shut ff valve between the vacuum tank and carburetor is essential. Unlike a gravity fed Ford that will drain everything in the tank, the most that can drain out of a DB is one quart. Still plenty for a good fire or explosion. Replace the seat for the float needle and/or lap it in with an abrasive cleaner, (like Ajax or Comet USA brands).
