this letter to the Franklin Automobile Company tells a great deal of what loyal customers of orphan cars (that had to close down due to the financial hardships in the mid 1930s) were faced with . The customers still loved their cars . the last cars made by Franklin were in 1934.

this letter is from someone in Queens County , NY one of the 5 boroughs of NY City (on the eastern edge)  and at the western edge of long island.

it is probably about a 20 minutes drive from where I live.

L.H. Hodge had worked for Franklin for some years as Service Manager, and Franklins were well represented with a fair number of dealerships here on long island , most owned and operated by the Pase Company of Brooklyn and Huntington, NY. I became friends with Wesley Pase the son of William Pase who owned the dealerships and was able to borrow and have negatives made of family period photographs - some amazing stuff. Custom bodies, presentations of cars , and even movie stars like Fred Astaire are in the photographs.

Thought you would enjoy seeing this example of a sad reflection of a fine car company , yet another piece of the history puzzle.
