JACK M
My mom always used ammonia. I know that feeling of a film that won't go away. Now that I have finally changed out that elusive heater core, I will be trying all the tricks as well.

MotiveLensPhoto
The chemical you use is less important than technique, imo. 1. use less than you think. 2. the towel/newspaper should be flat as possible against the glass. 3. use clean wipes. 4. use a second towel to dry off the glass after you clean it. WPVT
I never experienced truly clean glass until I started using cotton flannel rags after I had gotten the glass "clean" and allowed it to dry. Once you get the right lighting to see the streaks, the flannel can be used to dry rub the streaks away. Basically a polishing step, not cleaning, but it certainly works well.
