1966 Calais
just installed a reconditoned 1962 Wonderbar radio. Keeping the 7.5 fuse it works a few times and then blows the fuse. Going to put in a 10 amp fuse. Any recommendations of correct fuse size for a wonder bar seek signal radio> ty Bob
rocketraider
Is this one fully transistorized or still a tube unit? 62-63 was around time GM was converting to transistor radios. I have at hand a 1966 Olds Chassis Service Manual. Pontiac should be similar. The CSM contradicts itself on WB fusing. The radio section says WB requires a 7.5a fuse, but the electrical and fuse spec section calls for a SFE-9 (9 amp) fuse for all radios. It's a little scary to think a WB motor would pull enough amps to blow a 7.5a fuse. Is its operation quiet and smooth?
1966 Calais
Glenn, it is not fully transitorized. The wonder bar funtion is a tube. it has been completly gone over and is very smooth. Was in excellent condition before I took it to the radio shop ty Bob
rocketraider
Try the higher amp fuse. If it blows that or you smell hot electric components, it might need to come out for a closer look.

Frank DuVal
The tube just makes the solenoid work (comparing signals). The solenoid draws the current. . Heck, even the Corvair Radio fuse in the fuse block is a 10 amp fuse, even on the all transistor radios. And they never had the solenoid current to deal with.
