B Jake Moran
I can’t say for sure, but it is stained and looks period correct.
Crusty Trucker
My neighbor gave me a similar '50 when I was in high school, a one-owner car. The catch was, he needed the engine, transmission, wheels and tires for a '52 convertible he was rebuilding. I found a good running '50 Mercury flathead for $45.00 in a junk yard and bought a 3-speed overdrive transmission from a friend for $20. Stock steel wheels were $1.00 each and "new" recaps at the time were $3.00 for the "economy" caps. Interior-wise, a free set of "vintage" woven seat covers, and a used headliner from a wrecked sedan, along with flannel covred door cards and some rubbing compound on the instrument panel made the interior shine. I found a mint '51 steering wheel to top it all off. The factory primer was showing through the original black paint, so a $10.00 gallon can of Studebaker green and an uncle with a spray gun revived the exterior. I drove the car to school for two years and sold it for $150.00, (a tidy profit, not counting labor). $18,500.00 seems a little extreme, even when compared to 1960 dollars.
JACK M
Ahh, the good old days. There used to be a wrecking yard near me that almost always and a running car for 35 bucks. I bought many and flipped them when I was in high school. I was the guy that drove a different car every week, still do actually although these days its buy high and sell low.
