Hi all,

Looking to buy a 1998 or 1999 Buick Riviera in extremely good condition.
Β

Wanting low mileage, prefer less than 50,000 but willing to look at higher mileage if in exceptional condition.Β
Β

Needs to be rust free, clean vehicle with good service records. Willing to pay good money for the right Riviera.

Β

Many thanks

Rodney, I'm curious why you want only those years,

when the entire 1995-1999 range is so similar.

Β

My own 1995 Riviera has a very seldom-seen feature:

column-mounted gear shift, and cloth 60-40 seats

without a center console.Β  It makes the car seem more

spacious with the wide-open front seat.Β  I suspect that

at least 95% of the earliest Rivieras had a console, and

after a couple of years only the console was available.

Thanks for your reply. From my limited research, by 98/99 they had refined the Buick with the Series 11 supercharged engine, upgraded four speed overdrive transmission capable of handling the extra power of the supercharger and the rear suspension pieces were alloy and lighter. Leather was standard across the range as was bucket seats and console and daytime running lights were added.
Β

I agree that there appear to be little difference on the outside and inside of those years, mainly mechanical refinement.
Β

I have seen photos of the bench seat version and agree they appear to have more leg room, but not an issue for us two! πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€πŸ˜€

Β

Apparently β€˜97 was a one year only where many parts don’t interchange.

Β

Must admit I do like the colour on yours, very nice.

I was around when the Rivieras were on the dealer lots

in 1995 and onward.Β  I have seen only 2 others with

the split-bench seat, and those were in use, not new.

I wonder how many came with the split-bench seat--

in my experience, perhaps 2% to 5%, and probably

nearer the smaller of those figures.

I think I saw one advertised sometime back but it may have been an older advert. Blue cloth interior with bench seat and column auto. Certainly not many built and the option deleted later down the track.Β

Rodney, there is a 1999 Riviera that is advertised

in the October 2022 Buick Bugle, which I just received

today.Β  Many Rivieras I've noticed have high mileage, and

1998-1999 Rivieras are far less common than the 1995's,

so this might at least be worth inquiring about.

The ad has only text, no picture:

Β

"1999 Riviera:Β  Burgundy with grey interior.Β  71K miles.

Chrome wheels.Β  Well optioned.Β  Was a daily driver,

runs great.Β  Purchased 2008.Β  Well maintained.

Great touring car with excellent MPG [miles per gallon].

$7500 OBO.Β  Kris Syrdal, Saint Paul, Minnesota.

651-57xx8-680x2, kmsyrxdxal@yahoo.com."

[I added the x's for security.Β  Remove them to call or e-mail.]

This is the same car, which I happened to see

advertised on Craig's List.Β  From a cursory look at the

pictures, it looks excellent, and it's clearly maintained

by a collector.Β  This ad has pictures, which the ad in

the Buick Bugle did not have:

"1999 Buick Riviera. Maroon with grey leather interior. All options except sunroof. 71k miles, very well maintained car. Was a daily driver, so there are scratches and paint chips, but you will have to be very close to the car to see them. Second owner purchased in 2007 with less than 4000 miles. A/C not working. Great driving car with low miles for the year, I get 30 mpg on the highway with these last generation Rivieras.
I will take appointments to view the car. I do not need help selling. I will not reply to offers via email. I will consider reasonable in person offers.
If you have tried to contact me in the past please use updated contact information. The CL rely does not appear to work. Texts preferred at six one two three two five, 6229.

Contact Kris (612) 325-6229."

Rodney, did you try to call that seller?

When I requested, "please let us know if the car

in the Buick Bugle looks promising," you responded

with thanks butΒ then with a laughing icon.Β  I didn't

understand.Β Β

Β

Now that pictures are in the other ad, the car DOES

look promising, I think.

Β

From the Craig's List ad, it sounds as if people

tried to reach him but could not.

Hi John, yes I did contact the seller. I had several emails with photos from Krystan about this and a β€˜98 he has also that he is selling next year. Passed on this and the other because of mileage. Hoping to find something with 50k or less. BTW he mentioned the β€˜98 was in better condition with higher miles.Β
Β

Thanks for bringing it to my attentionΒ

cheers

Hi all,

appreciate your help in this one. I have found and bought a nice 1997 Buick Riviera with 10800miles from a dealer, Route 65 Sales who were very helpful in the purchase.
Β

The colour and list of options was exactly what I was seeking and the low mileage was verified by the photos that they posted. Just waiting for it to arrive which should be at the end of August.Β
Β

BTW it took about six months to find this one. I was patient (which is unusual for me ) and I had a clear vision of what I wanted. But I was also willing to evaluate other vehicles, hence the change to a 1997 model.
Β

Will post a topic under Me and My Buick once it lands in my garage. Very pleased πŸ˜€

Β

And pictures otherwise it never happenedΒ

Congratulations on the purchase, Rodney!

It's very unusual to find that generation of Riviera

with such low mileage;Β  not many were saved.

Β

Where did you see the car advertised?Β  I see from the

dealer's website that his prices are pretty realistic--

a refreshing quality not found with many dealers today.

You should enjoy your Riviera.

John, many thanks.

Β

You are correct in saying that very few have low mileage yet my almost non negotiable criteria was to buy one with less than 50k unless it was pristine with more than that. My search took almost six months, searching everyday and setting up alerts on multiple sales sites as well as checking Craigslist and Facebook sites. Admittedly my first search was for a β€˜98 or β€˜99 however after checking the changes made in β€˜97 verified that the HD transmission and rear suspension upgrades were done then.Β
Β

The alert for this one came from one of those sites and my decision was made very quickly as the photos and the Carfax report verified the mileage. The Bright Diamond White metallic colour was another of my criteria as well as the moon roof and supercharged engine. I think the Dayton wires and Vogue tyres are a bonus that provide some bling.

Β

You are right in thinking the dealers prices are realistic as it was in the ballpark of what I was prepared to pay. BTW I did not pay much less than the advertised price, preferring to secure the deal quickly rather than dicker over a few dollars. BTW the salesperson Noel was most helpful when I made contact and rang me (In Australia)when we were sorting out the purchase. He also sent a video showing it running and a walk around just before it was collected.

Β

At this point it is still in transit, shipped from Houston to the UK, transshipped to another container ship on its way to Sydney. It will then be transferred to another ship to eventually arrive in Adelaide about the 31st August. (Adelaide is about 45miles from where we live)

Β

Looking forward to enjoying another Buick in my life, especially this one. Will be posting on Me and My Buick as soon as it arrives and keeping track with the adventures. Can’t wait!!!
