What is this part? (Multiple items)

Hi,

So I bought a ‘40 LZ club coupe in pieces!!

anyways, I’m unpacking everything and found this part that I can’t figure out what it is.

I can get more pics if necessary. 

Any help is appreciated!

So, where does this part go?

It’s pretty clean, so I assume under the hood, but I haven’t seen it in any pictures I’ve looked at.

It bolts on a bracket that is likewise bolted to the steering box, facing the firewall, under the steering column.

Found this while unpacking Zephyr parts. 
Looks like someone decided to crudely cut it for some reason. 
Any reason why someone would do this?

What is it?

I’ll need to find one.

I found another one that is not chopped up. 
Is there any reason that they would have modified this?

This is more of a what’s the deal question. 
 

So I have three exhaust manifolds here. 
The two in the top of pic are tha same except they’re left and right side. 
And they both exhaust near one end. 
 

The one on the bottom exhausts out the center. 
 

which is correct for my ‘40 zephyr?

Also, which side is which? The manifolds look like they could go on either side of the engine.
