shelbyone Posted October 21, 2021 Posted October 21, 2021 on a lighter note... has anyone ever separated the rear reflector ( red reflector from black plastic ) without destroying it? I have an idea in terms of superthin LED blinker/stop installation...
cowancom Posted October 23, 2021 Posted October 23, 2021 I did mine with LEDs in 2009. Sorry I did not take pictures. LEDs have come a long way since 2009. hope all is well with you. Still at Boeing? 1

I would be interested in the procedure - I suppose it is straight forward, cracking it open all the way..unless you tell me, that I have to be aware of certain things..
cowancom Posted October 26, 2021 Posted October 26, 2021 Yea pretty straight forward. Next time I would paint the inside of the reflector with a more reflective paint. The gray/silver that was used is just too dull. Maybe even wrap the inside with a mirror vinyl. 1
Lkvr Posted October 27, 2021 Posted October 27, 2021 I was working on this a few years ago. I not only wanted the trunk reflector bar to light up with the brake lights, but I also wanted the trunk reflector to have sequential turn signals and emergency flashers. I was able to seperate the reflector from the base with a putty knife. The two pieces were attached with bead of silicone that went all the way around the red reflector the measurement would have allowed two rows of LEDs as shown in the picture I purchased programable LED strips from adafruit.com. I started to progam using an Arduino controller Unfortunately life side tracked me and I never finished it Hopefully you get further than I got. 2
shelbyone Posted October 27, 2021 Author Posted October 27, 2021 (edited) Larry! thank you so much for this input! I am actually researching as we speak and I found a 40" lightstrip for $20 on ebay...that does the job! if you want to finish the job with this solution, its probably the easiest way! I separated the reflector a couple of hours ago and I am sure that a 5mm LED strip would fit with no issue! I will report back here with the result! here's the link https://www.ebay.com/itm/402945636253?_trkparms=ispr%3D1&hash=item5dd16e779d:g:qEIAAOSwHF5g1TM6&amdata=enc%3AAQAGAAACsPYe5NmHp%2B2JMhMi7yxGiTJkPrKr5t53CooMSQt2orsS%2BMKizvpuEDUfX4dvRWfUzUzP5dbm2Tf1cAac3UnMu0v7BhxsY6CYQZ2a1FZ4sbomiH6ahLRIwCu2WFkan6QAS0FZ3anH7kfy6ewHHqIqt0y%2B5L9ZApTYmRVDhXqA7uyJT8RSoGfxuF9%2BEpHdZPjc%2FDQO5JGcpJhUzYxI0pt%2FiyFAQCGK%2FNn0dVwDR56806BLjv6SDnn2C4cjRhjp9Ihyw2%2FKwh%2FnsMqOlYAm%2FeyzYvrd3jwQb3Z47KSiyWiKVIZfhmAOdyDkr5DKZa7WD%2BocgPFjk0dspARN5S%2F4%2B%2FuMQiWeNtEEL0E%2FGZccBzzdcrNHdYyu2AIjwJaxdj1uhGBYn0s3OpibKw2njal%2F9NUZ9NnzMcy0IHQgfVzGoJwLb6NC8YOGahQSHQ1qbxY0BSHxTLtL3kLFqipUTpdnEuHMrWIDXcfgqoal%2F0FEnGMAJHrlxveeKQrSE2L5ii7gFQLYO%2F%2F95VDGmxpHekXnDhtno4zj%2Fp%2B%2FZI%2BzWg8okZnDgH1WfNnbZc3W4yUs%2FUJqhx81i%2BOobh4RQSdGbU1N48x33Xo1dYSjdmxHeb85%2BwCkROlvi0CbzCxz3sCb%2FNK36AKS2knWOPNUM0xAEnH7N1flFm6Yi8HN2UJuKcOaEZ1LfiysRl9VkAemwchHSAKeyVOBWy7d9xMyckhRE4yhoAOzuv%2BAy3O04Z2jUtOrV6nZ49GYzwYD7bsjqDVneaiwW7lUJ5kpKm62pR5ms8eMeUv8YM0QRgwjTFV37iIRWm1FjL0QKt3iqJlVbHaNllK05WGynShMn5JAAuJA2qKzEyiEdzNQXGDNyMmG%2BnBZ9gTRb0Ep2W%2FW2UxtecFjV9CUNYV93VZqYd1m%2BegpqTq7nF%2FHBkI%3D|clp%3A2334524|tkp%3ABFBMpKz29pdf Edited October 27, 2021 by shelbyone addition!
